Really greeat news. Looks like this film is going to be a main vehicle for Jessica this year.I'm still curious if it's going to be divided into two parts, or is this a new version, titled just Eleanor Rigby for a reason. It might be one movie after all.

Oh, apparently it IS going to be one movie https://twitter.com/NoelMu/status/456742743595700224

Kind of disappointing if it's now one 2-hour movie, but given its history a subsequent DVD might contain both parts.

There's a good possibility that if it had been left as two films it would've gone straight to VOD or DVD with no theatrical release.

That's great news! I just wish Weinstein left it at 3 hours.

Still, I can't wait to see this film and the wonderful performance I heard James McAvoy gives.

reply

Honestly so upset it got cut. I feel like the movie won't be the same without the two films together.

I'm sure the 191 minute version will eventually see the light of day. In fact, it might be released in two parts like Nymphomaniac. It has only been revealed that the 119 minute is going to Cannes. Sometimes they do shorten or even extend films for festivals. I remember when they shortened the Mildred Pierce miniseries when it premiered at Venice.

It's an ordinary high school day. Except that it's not.

I'm thinking the same thing, Valerie_Vance. It's possible that Cannes said no to the two-film version because that had already screened in Toronto, so Weinstein suggested the single film format. As a film nerd, I must admit I'd like to see both versions.

Seeing the 190 minute version at TIFF was truly an event. The emotional weight to the film was only felt BECAUSE of its length and because of the many differences that divided both Him and Her. It was a beautiful experiment in filmmaking and I'm a little saddened that it's been trimmed. I'm eager to see what's become of it but nothing will be like the experience of seeing it last September. Harvey Scissorhands, indeed.

Well, it's scheduled to open in limited release on Sept. 26. It's possible that it will be screened as intended in the theatres that will run the two-film, 190-minute version, and as a single, 2-hour film in the (I suspect) many theatres that will not.
