Hard to take a list seriously that has Age of Ultron ahead of Endgame.🤷

reply

Endgame was overlong, felt too rote, and relied too much on "fan service." It really only exists to undo the events of Infinity War. The final battle takes 30 minutes, and is nothing more than CGI spectacle peppered with a few ridiculous moments of "look everyone! look who it is/what he/she is doing!" It has some great moments, but the overall execution weighs it down so much that those moments can't overcome the sum total of the film.

Age of Ultron isn't perfect, but it's a fun super-hero film from start to finish.

reply

Except that Age of Ultron is superior to Endgame, no contest.

Well, I've seen all the movies except Shang-Chi and half of the TV shows, and I would place Werewolf by Night at the bottom below even The Eternals. The only thing remotely decent about it was Man-Thing. Of course, I only know the original 1970s comic and was expecting something different, but I don't find this film version interesting even on its own terms.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm a huge fan of old cinema, and Werewolf by Night reminded me in so many ways of the sort of classic horror films that are no longer being made.

reply

Curious. It really only reminded me of more contemporary action/horror... and more like the current TV version than film at that - although the distinction is becoming rather indistinct.

reply

No Netflix shows? Daredevil and Punisher should be e pretty high up.

reply

I was ranking only the MCU films and shows. If I rank the Netflix shows against themselves, I'd say this:

1. Daredevil, Season 1
2. Iron Fist, Season 1
3. Daredevil, Season 2
4. Daredevil, Season 3
5. Iron Fist, Season 2
6. The Punisher, Season 1
7. The Defenders
8. Luke Cage, Season 1
9. Jessica Jones, Season 1

The Punisher, Season 2 - watched some, liked it, but didn't finish
Luke Cage, Season 2 - watched the first couple episodes, lost interest
Jessica Jones, Season 2 - season 1 was so bad I didn't even bother

Ranking them against the MCU shows will take more thought.

My opinion holds little weight because I’m not a Marvel expert at all, and have only seen 16 of the 30 films on your list… BUT… I would say the one film I have seen from Marvel studios that I would rate above all that I have seen and actually list in my Top 100 movies of all time, isn’t even mentioned there.

Why no love for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse? Is it not considered proper Marvel canon because it’s an animated film or something? Personally I was shocked at how brilliant that film was, it came out of nowhere to become one of the greatest animated films ever.

But yeah, maybe you have a special criteria or maybe you just didn’t like it. Which is cool, but if so I’m sorry to say we can’t be friends*

I enjoyed Into the Spiderverse as well, but it wasn't made by Marvel Studios, and the rankings are of that studio's films, which are commonly referred to as the films of the MCU.

I haven't seen all of the films Sony made using the Marvel characters, but for what it's worth, here's how I'd rank 'em:

The Really Good Ones

1. Spider-Man
2. Spider-Man 2
3. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

The Not Very Good One

4. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Really Bad Ones

5. The Amazing Spider-Man
6. Spider-Man 3

The So Terrible I'd Rather Be Punched in the Head Than Watch Again Ones

7. Venom
8. Venom: Let There Be Carnage

The Ones I Did Not Watch

Morbius
Ghost Rider
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
