It looks like ex-CIA job placement is really problematic, The Bricklayer, The Painter, The Beekeeper, Nobody, The Equalizer, The Family Plan, they all work some low end jobs.
It has a 68% critics score on RT right now and a 91% audience score. That is higher than I expected. It seems like it will probably be a fun action movie for fans of the genre.
I think I will go see it either tonight or tomorrow.
It's a weird movie with both positives, negatives and elements that I wouldn't say are positive or negative but just odd. The script definitely could have used more work, as some of the early parts of the story feel lazily written. It is also tonally inconsistent, with some of its characters feeling like they are from a completely different movie. But on the positive side, the film has style and looks good, the action is well-staged, and the story goes in some directions near the end that I totally didn't see coming, and I am always happy when an action movie surprises me instead of just following existing well-worn tropes.
It's definitely a mixed bag. The tragedy here is that with more work on the script it could've been a really cool movie, but the inconsistent quality holds it back. As it stands, I will simply call it "an interesting watch."
The script is written by Kurt Wimmer, who also wrote Equilibrium, which I thought was great. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to have put the same level of effort into the story here as he did with that film.
