This movie was HORRIBLE!
Pretentious and boring. The only redeeming feature was that we got to see a brief glimpse of Kirsten Dunst's breasts!

shareI agree. Too much talking in between splosions. This film has nothing on Transformers.
shareAlthough I recognize your weak attempt at sarcasm, you are unfortunately correct. As bad as Transformers may have been, and had no thought provoking value, at least it had some entertainment value. This movie was neither thought provoking nor entertaining. It desperately wanted to be deep and artsy, but it bogged itself down with too much unnecessary information and too little story.
Most of us watch movies for one of two reasons. We either want to escape and be entertained, or we want to see something that engages our mind and gives us pause to think. Regardless of which goal a film has in mind, it at least has to hold our interest in order to achieve its purpose.
This film sadly had potential and could have benefited from an editor willing to cut the first part in half. I'm not sure if the director refused to allow any cuts, or handled the editing himself, but although I understand that he wanted us to feel the depth of Justine's despair, it went overboard and began to resemble a theatrical form of water boarding. I would gladly have revealed the location of the rebel base just to make it stop!
you just don't get
melancholy.
Just stop please.
shareCHRIST DOES EVERY MOVIE SUCK... I MEAN EVERY MOVIE... WHAT'S A GREAT MOVIE IN THE LAST 15 YEARS... INQUIRIES WANT TO KNOW.
sharePretentious?- Lars von Trier always is.
Boring? - Well, could be worse.
KDs breasts redeeming? - Maybe if you're 14 and didn't enjoy any sexual education so far. But they look OK.
Certainly and by far not the best oeuvre of von Trier and in all on the level of a precocious 14-year-old. But look at von Triers work (always within artificial setups) as the ambition of a dedicated teacher that sometime misses the mark, but is always trying to convey a message and save humanity or at least cinema from its many foibles and grand weaknesses.
Play with the puzzle pieces in your mind, read a little bit about it, or do something completely different. But maybe you want to give good and/or ambitious cinema a little chance.
By the way, for me, thought provoking and entertaining should not necessarily be opposites or exclusives and this movie failed on both to a certain degree.
Sorry you feel that way but hey try and watch the movie "Under The Skin"
it's kind of an improvement on this movie :)
see it asap if you can.. it came out on DVD/Blueray in 2014
