For over 2000yrs., The Vatican has recorded evidence of evil

So remarkably thorough has their documentation been, they've actively and voluntarily aided in the arrest and conviction of several million priests worldwide, hardened criminals who've exploited the collar for the sake of rape and pederasty. A cursory glance through the day's news reveals almost instantly Rome's dogged resolve in the pursuit of justice and defense of the vulnerable among it's own congregation.

Wherever did you get your numbers? There are less than a half million priests in the entire world. A tiny minority have ever been accused, let alone convicted, of sex crimes. You have a far greater chance, child, adolescent or adult, of being sexually assaulted by public school teachers, friends or relatives than by a Catholic priest; regardless of what the media would like you to think.

reply

And where do YOU get your statistics from? The point is: when it is about sexual abuse, the dark figures are waaaaaay bigger than the actual numbers. Obviously. Nobody admits committing these kinds of things and in opposit of other crimes like theft the vicitims also rarely don't admit they have been molested because of shame and a plethora of other reasons. Add to this that it's oftentimes a hard-to-prove crime and all the social implications, wheeling and deeling among the culprits etc. and you should realize that it is impossible to have any real figures.

The OP is obviously on the trolling side of things and my comment doesn't mean I agree with him, just wanted to point out that you shouldn't be all too sure about your claim either.

Expressing disgust with a fallacious, downright fraudulent assertion is now derided as "trolling"? Wow; if the typical dude of the cloth was privy to the astounding level of vigilance aimed at his profession, he and his fellow Godmen would've unburdened themselves of that most costly of party favors-an exorbiantly priced legal team-eons ago. Who needs a licensed mouthpiece when John and Jane Q public are apparently more than happy to run interference on your behalf, free of charge ?

Actually wouldn't be surprised if those numbers(half a million priests in the world at present, give or take)turned out to be accurate; your assertion seems to be that pederasty has only been The Collar's favorite past time recently. A cursory glance through any thoroughly researched investigation of the subject reveals( the Magdalene laundries, pre-Revolutionary France)the veracity of such a claim couldn't be more ephemeral. And with all deference, Cos, surely no reasonably intelligent person finds such a theory("A small group of folks in X profession have ever been accused, much less convicted of convicted of Z. Therefore, not that many are perpetrators. We haven't explored the possiblity that additional, less obvious dynamics might spell an monstrous underestimation of these rates.")remotely credible.

"For over 2000 years"???? Really??? Christianity wasn't established until the 4th c. AD, and the "Vatican" came eay after!

reply

The church was begun by Christ himself and it is stated so in scripture. This has nothing to do with buildings, but Christ's church is meant to be a gathering of believers (read the book of Acts for its early days, and most of the apostles were still alive when that was written).

reply

Actually, most gospels are 3rd-4th century editions, which were supposedly carried from mouth to mouth until recorded.

Christ himself didn't "begin" institutionalized Christianity, and the Church as we now perceive it. He organized his followers in an ecclesia (today's Greek translation for church), which basically is those that heard His calling.

Also, I never meant "buildings". The movie's tagline talks about the Vatican, as an institution, not a state, or any of its buildings thereof.

I agree Sharktopus.
/On a side note: When is your next Movie?

I think that bit about "For over 2000 years [of] recorded evidence of evil" on the screen at the beginning is just made up. Doesn't actually have anything to do with anything actually historical or theological ... it was just a script set-up for the stuff later in the script about archives. The rest in the movie about Rome and the Vatican likewise I think is just part of the story / script. Part of the whole sub-genre of horror/occult/exorcism since way back. If you're going to have a script involving exorcism you're going to have this kind of material. That's all.

The worst part is the sexual abuse isn't even the tip of the ice berg of what the vatican has been involved in. They helped Nazi war criminals evade capture... they also sanctioned slavery throughout Europe.
