Listen up, film-makers and the girls they will influence:
There's only one Daria.
Not even Rose McGowan (however you spell that) in The Doom Generation was as unappealing as this lame character. Maybe because she didn't have the same unforgiving, cardboard cut-out facial expression for the whole movie's duration.
And thinking that some twat who calls herself a witch is cool... please. That's immature even for an 18 year old.
No, because it's only been done well a handful of times at most, and this most certainly wasn't one of those times.
You'd have to be pretty goddamn gullible and immature to be taken in by Araki's spoon feeding with this character. It went: dry sense of humour? Check. One moronic, conceited facial expression for the entire movie? Check. Quirky psuedo-goth/punk fashion sense? Check. Now just watch as this immature generation of dead-headed teen girls will take to her like a new messiah.
What gets me is that this movie did have a really good female character: London. You've got greatness right there in front of you and you're too busy being lead around by the nose by the cheapest and most condescending director tricks. You need to be spanked like a bad puppy dog and sent off to a darkened room where you will be forced to watch decent movies until you begin to get the idea. Because, sweetheart, you've got a long way to go.
