This show is so bizarre

Previously, I made a post about stopping at Season 6. However, I returned to the series, because I wanted to see more of Daryl. He is by far the best character on the show. So complex, mysterious and he does have a moral code. I enjoy Maggie a lot. Carol is also good to watch. Neegan grows on you, however I still was not totally invested in him, although Jeffrey Dean Morgan played the part well.

Rick, Mashone and Morgan are always good to watch. The rest of characters are ok to poor, although I did like Judith, Enid, Lydia and Aaron. Eugene is incredibly hilarious at times with how he talks and how he delivers his words.

I absolute abhorred Alpha. Wanted that character dead so badly, no fault of Samantha Morton. The writers came up with this bizarre character and wasted our time. She did go out in a fitting way. It was a useless season.

I finished all 11 seasons, and boy, sometimes the last few seasons were a real struggle to get through. A show that has had 4 showrunners, is a clear indication that it should've ended a long time ago. There's a lot of repetition with differing variation on the storylines. It got old very fast.

The show delivered some shocking moments, and not all those shocking moments paid off. It seems the showrunners wanted to shock the audience to draw back viewers to the show. What is also totally bizarre, is that the far majority (all) of the bad guys (leaders) were white people. Hollywood has created the stereotype and has been sticking to it that white people in positions of power are bad. We never saw Asian, middle eastern/Indian people/black or also Jewish people in positions of authority who are bad. It's always the white person. It's pathetic the double standards of Hollywood.

This show is a show of no hope. A cure was never explored. Scientists were never on the show to explore cures, and to administer it to the population. Every virus has a cure. Even in a world like The Walking Dead, science should explore and should always find a way. It's hilarious that the writers just ignored that. There is no hope for these characters. Eventually they will all die and turn into walkers. If there's people, there's walkers. Nobody can last that long and continue to fight. The show and showrunners just plodded along until AMC said ok, enough.

EDIT: Another huge problem is the only way people get infected is by being bitten. You don't get infected by having blood of the walkers on you ? The skin is like a sponge. It absorbs everything. I guess we wouldn't have a show if infection by blood happened, but logic is right out of the window.

I'm glad I watched all 11 seasons, but I won't revisit this show again.

While I agree with your assessment of the show, these are not accurate

Every virus has a cure.

No virus has a cure. There are no cures for viruses. There are vaccinations that prevent you from getting viruses. There are treatments for the symptoms, but there are no cures for viruses.

This is moot anyway, because they don't have a virus. There is no explanation for what causes them to turn into zombies.

That is the fundamental premise of the show [and the comic book it is based on]. "The Walking Dead" doesn't refer to the zombies. It refers to the survivors. This was clear from season 1.

Walking Dead Wiki says it's a virus, originating in France.

I understand that fans use the word "virus" to describe the affliction that causes the dead to reanimate, but unless it's in one of the many spinoffs, there's nothing in the show The Walking Dead indicating it's a virus.

One of the many many problems with this show.

I was hoping Fear the Walking Dead would get into the government point of view and show an attempt at a cure and something about its origins. Instead it morphed into a bad Walking Dead clone.

Viral research was mentioned a little in the spin-off World Beyond and now in Daryl Dixon. The virus origin was in France which is where both Daryl and Carol are now. Did you see this lab scene?

I thought the storylines about Negan and Alpha dragged for too long. The series lost many viewers with the Negan story which had some of the worst writing and directing.

I agree with your assessment about the characters, but I like Dale and Carl, also.

I would blame the show's repetition and white villains on Kirkland. The series was basically following his graphics novel which was very repetitive.

Are you watching the Daryl/Carol and Negan/Maggie spinoffs? The French show is at least scenic.

reply

I started watching Neegan/Maggie, however I think I will also have a look at Daryl/Carol. I'm a bit zombied-out to honest. Will have to take a break.

Thanks for your thoughts.

reply

You're welcome. I definitely understand needing to take a break since that happens to me all the time. Only 6 episodes per season when you resume watching - no dragging anything out.

Neegan/Maggie series was too over-the-top, dreary, and lastly, filmed in the dark which is my major pet peeve. I may give it another try when it resumes, but they need to turn on some lights.

I'm enjoying the Daryl and Carol series.

reply

I'm glad you mentioned Carol is with Daryl. I thought it would just be Daryl in France with a bunch of French actors. Glad I was wrong. Daryl and Carol make a good pair.

As for Neegan/Maggie, just adjust the brightness on your screen. That's what I do. lol

reply

The actress couldn't move to France right away, but it was always their intention to have them team up.

TV is a visual medium so I want well-designed sets, good-looking actors, interesting clothes/costumes, good cinematography, etc. aka eye candy. There's something ugly about Neegan/Maggie's show that's turning me off although the darkness is 90% of it. And I refuse to tamper with the TV settings which will mess up my other shows.

Fair enough.
