I've watched 6 seasons of The Walking Dead

Having said that, I watched the first 3 seasons more than a year ago, and this week, I finished 4-6.

This show is hit and miss for me.

SPOILERS

First season I would not really rank, as firstly, it's only 6 episodes, and I consider it setup for the entire series.
Second season was very good. I enjoyed the time on the farm.
Third season I did not enjoy, mainly because of Woodbury. Did not enjoy that settlement. The governor as the antagonist did nothing for me.
Fourth season is brilliant. Loved it. Could not take my eyes off the screen. Best season by far.
Season 5 was good. I loved Alexandria. Good place.
Season 6 was terrible. Did not enjoy it at all. Too much concentration on human relationships.

My favourite character by far is Daryl. Such a complex and mysterious character. My favourite female character is Beth. Carol is also really good. Herschel was also a good character. I also love Michonne.

A few deaths I was sad about. I really did not like that they killed Andrea. I cried when Beth died. I love Emily Kinney. Tyrese had a strange death, but I enjoyed his character. He had some really good moments.

I think I'm going to stop with 6 seasons, because from what I've read, the show is not the same anymore. I disliked season 6 so much, because it's all about human relationships, and it seems that it never stops from season 7 onwards.

Someone on Youtube said they wished Rick was still the Rick from the finale of Season 5, where he killed Pete. Love it when Rick is a savage.

I know the two people who Negan kills in the beginning of season 7, as I read up on it.

However, the end of the season 6 finale is my series finale for me. Rick once described the group as The Walking Dead, and that scene where the group are on their knees in such a perilous situation, sums it up beautifully for me.

Thanks for your thoughts, it was nice to read. I thought the earlier seasons were also really good, with some highs and lows here and there. I can see that with season 3; I personally liked the prison stuff and thought it was a cool location, but I think the Governor was done a little better in the comic. In the TV version they try to flesh him out more, but I think him being over the top as a villain worked better.

Sorry to hear you didn't like season 6. I've read that on here too, but for me there are so many amazing episodes.
***SPOILERS*** you get the lead up to not really knowing who Negan is but feel that scary presence that something big is going to happen. Episodes like the one where they infiltrate their bunker was so tense, and the episode where they think they have Negan, then it's actually some random guy who says they are all Negan. Great scenes. Even the season finale is one of my favorites; just them driving down the roads to see they are blocked off, getting cornered was really scary, then you finally get the reveal of who Negan is.

I agree in season 6 it started to feel a little more like a soap opera in some parts. Season 7 has one of the best and scariest episodes I've ever seen on any show (The day will come when you won't be), and stayed extremely true to the comics which I loved. I thought it was weird when I heard people complain it was too gory or violent; that part of the story is suppose to be. It's suppose to feel hopeless and something that makes you feel for the characters. I thought it was effective anyway. I personally think towards the end if season 7 or beginning of 8 is when the quality started going all over the place in the show.

Thank you also for your thoughts.

I loved the prison in the series. Very tense with the walkers always nearby and even inside the prison. That was really good stuff.

Can you give me a hint on the scariest episode ? You don't have to give spoilers.
I love these characters so much.

I will read up more on the other seasons. But I feel I had enough of TWD.

Sure! So the first episode on season 7 "The day will come when you won't be), I thought the whole setting and atmosphere was great. It has a very dark, moody feel to it. The finale of season 6, along with this episode, really nails home the idea that Rick and his friends realize for the first time, that they are in way, way over their head, and bit off more then they can chew. Before this with the other gangs / villains, they were formidable, but Rick's group still beats them. This is the first time Rick and group are defeated, and experience huge, devastating losses. If you didn't know anything about Negan from the comic, and it was new to you at the time, he was pretty scary and I feel like they did his character well just like the comic book version. You mentioned you know who dies in the episode, but seeing it in real time was suspenseful, and you were kind of rooting for all the main characters as they had a great cast with Rick during this part of the story. Seeing the deaths were extremely gruesome, more then anything else I can think of on the show.

I don't think this spoilers the episode too much, but just check out this ending clip. One of my favorite ways they ended an episode and you can see how much this took a toll on Rick and crew.

There are some really powerful scenes in the show. That clip made me cry when I saw the episode.

Thank you. Appreciate it!

I also enjoyed season 2, but like you I also binge watched it. From what I've read in older forums, the viewers that watched it in real time weren't as thrilled. I imagine that waiting a week (or more) between episodes could get tedious with not a lot moving forward for an entire season.

I didn't like the Governor arc at all. I kept thinking he was like a cartoon villain, then I had to remind myself that it is based on a comic book.

Season 4 was good. Season 5 was okay. I lost interest during season 6 like you and season 7 was the end for me after the first three episodes.

LOL, that's when I kick myself for expecting more from TWD. I never liked the Governor either. I think that town was too small to hold all his secrets and it was just fake and then ridiculous war. I don't think people would put up with that for very long.

When I saw what was happening with Negan and the show got so gratuitously violent, not to mention stupid. I stopped watching for like 2 years. Started watching Fear The Walking Dead, my favorite season was the one where Morgan Forrest Gump's it across the South to end up in Texas and they introduced John Dorie. Then kind of went downhill to nuclear holocaust.
