Lucille and Texas Chainsaw III

I just finished watching Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw III (1990), for the second time.

Something I had not noticed when I watched that movie for the first time , obviously because when I first saw it I hadn't watched TWD yet, is that the protagonist's helper, a weekend survivalist called Benny, has an automatic rifle called Lucille, just like Negan's bat.

I wonder if the writers made Negan's bat be named that way just as a kind of homage to TCM 3, and many episodes down the line, when running out of ideas, they developed the baseball bat's name into a whole subplot about Negan's sick wife.

I think the bat was already called Lucille in the comics, long before the backstory on Negans wife came up.

Yes, but that doesn’t contradict or have anything to do with the OP.

Well, the OP seems to think it was the TV show writers who came up with the name, and then the back story when it was probably Robert Kirkman who originally came up with both, but yes he may have got the idea for the name from TCM 3.
