Where did you hear that? That would be a pretty ridiculous reason to leave a successful show and sounds highly unlikely. If that is something that was actually stated by the departed actor, it would suggest something someone would do say as a way of disingenuous, Hollyweird virtue signaling & masking the real reasons for the departure.

reply

I saw him interviewed on "The Talking Dead."

The actor didn't appear to want to leave. He was surprised since Jesus in the graphics novel was still alive. He said he wore a wig when he started the role, but was finally able to grow his hair long when his character was killed off. He sounded disappointed that he went to the trouble of growing his hair long for nothing.

BTW, a different article says he wanted to leave because he was bored. I'm not buying either one.

reply

Okay but none of that really addresses the statement I was confused about where you seemed to be surmising that the guy left the show because the character wasn't overtly gay enough for him which sounds hilarious but still pretty absurd & far fetched to me.

reply

HE STATED EXACTLY WHAT I SAID IN MULTIPLE INTERVIEWS...THIS ARTICLE TOUCHES ON THE REASONS FOR LEAVING A BIT,HE WAS MUCH MORE IN DETAILIN THE INTERVIEWS I SAW THOUGH...https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/walking-dead-tom-payne-exits-jesus-fate-explained-1163273

This link is similar to the interview he did on the Talking Dead. He basically said he was trained to be a cool fighter, but the show didn't have him do any of it. He was happy to show his fighting skills on the last episode. (His intro actually showed his fighting skills, too.) He also said he was bummed to leave after his character was finally doing more.

I don't believe it was his choice to leave, but he wasn't unhappy because Jesus didn't have much to do. Being gay had zip to do with it. A hook-up with Aaron would've been lame.

The problem with the more recent seasons have been a lack of character development. The earlier seasons emphasized characters and their relationships with each other which is the reason I watched the show.

reply

"They were aware I wouldn't be unhappy if they got rid of me. I expressed unhappiness last season. I was very frustrated with what the character had been doing. He arrived in a very cool way, and then he floundered at the Hilltop."

WHAT I SAID IS FACT WHAT YOU SAID IS OPINION...HAVE A NICE DAY.

reply

"WHAT I SAID IS FACT WHAT YOU SAID IS OPINION"

Nonsense since we're saying the same thing. Remove the chip off your shoulder.

reply

BUT ITS A DORITO...TASTY!

reply

Yes, Doritos are very tasty.

reply

@Keelai Oops! It seems I confused you with Kowlaski with my last response which is who that comment was directed at.

reply

@Kowalski I'm still waiting for where it was said that he left the show because his character wasn't gay enough.

reply

SCROLL,IVE POSTED THE INTERVIEW AND ITS QUOTES ENOUGH ALREADY.

reply

Nothing you quoted corroborated that claim though.

HE WAS UNHAPPY WITH THE LACK OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHARACTER IN TWO CATAGORIES...THE ACTION AND HIS SEXUALITY..."They were aware I wouldn't be unhappy if they got rid of me. I expressed unhappiness last season. I was very frustrated with what the character had been doing. He arrived in a very cool way, and then he floundered at the Hilltop." AND "It's been so amazing to be a part of that community and to give visibility as a gay character on one of the biggest television shows ever. It was an amazing responsibility, and I was happy to take it on. But I was disappointed it wasn't in there more. "

HE MADE SIMILAR COMMENTS DURING AN INTERVIEW ON TELEVISION TOO.

reply

Like I assumed, you seem to be reading too much into select statements and erroneously interpreting them into something that wasn't actually said. It's a significant leap.

reply

I SAW HIM MAKE THE COMMENTS DURING A INTERVIEW ON TELEVISION...THE LINK IS CLOSEST I COULD FIND...IF YOU ACTUALLY READ,HE SAYS WHAT I SAID HE SAYS...YOU SEEM TO BE HAVING FUN BEING KING TOOL THOUGH...ENJOY.

reply

Okay Mr. All Caps. I'm sorry for not agreeing with your imagined scenario.

reply

YOU TYPE NONSENSE TOO MUCH...PEOPLE ARE STARTING TO TALK.

reply

I agree with you. I'm not buying that reason either. Why would he care?

My disagreement was with this being the only reason. Basically, Payne wanted Jesus to be more fleshed out. I already wrote that many of the characters have not been written well in recent years which is one of the main reasons why I don't care when they're killed off.

Jesus had a lot of potential.

reply

I GOT YA...AND AGREE..OBVIOUSLY NOT THE ONLY REASON...IM SURE LIKE FANS PAYNE REALIZED HE WAS STARRING IN A SOAP OPERA THAT LOST ALL ITS CHARM.

The thing is it can be surmised that at best the actor's passing reference to the sexuality of the character was inconsequential in of itself but rather reflective of the broader issue of the character in general not being developed as much as he would have wanted.

It's an extreme far cry from making the definitive & misleading claim that the actor left the show because the character wasn't overtly gay enough which is beyond silly.

reply

Yes, his character is gay in the comics as well.

reply

They were headed in that direction but the show runners loved the idea of KILLING a guy named Jesus.
Now he's dead.
Now they're happier.

reply

Duh!
