The water wheel generators...

So when Daryl is talking to Judith on the dock thing, you see a handful of water wheel generators spinning away. However, they don't appear to be connected to anything to generate power/grind something etc. It's seems they're wasting energy to pump water to turn the wheels for aesthetic purposes. Like a garden pond's fountain. Am I missing something here or is it just plain idiocy as it first appears?

reply

maybe to keep the water moving so it doesn't become stagnant?

reply

the water is moving the wheels

I noticed that as well, and the best I could figure out was that the water wheels
were at a level lower than the lake above them, so they tapped the lake and ran
pipes over to fill the buckets on the water wheels. That is the only way that would
work from the way it looks.

reply

Possible. It doesn't explain why they would be doing it though.

reply

I would assume that there is a drain in a body of water higher
than the water wheels. That drain would siphon around until
it is overhead a water wheel and as water exited to go downhill
it turns the wheel. To be useful they would need to be connected
to an axle and a generator or gearset, and machinery.

reply

Exactly, but there doesn't appear to actually be any axle of other means to transfer the energy being generated.

reply

They could be connected to small generators, from cars or something, and wires going off to do something or charge batteries. They have to show some kind of progress happening, right?

reply

Saw the same. I could only think maybe irrigation underground?
