Unfortunately, I don't see this happening. With plans of Untitled: The Walking Dead Movie (https://moviechat.org/tt9859436), they're probably going to save Rick for the series finale.

shareI'll admit I was bored of Rick but I never realized how much he and CARRRRL held the series together until they were gone.
shareThere was an easy way to keep Rick on the show. Since there are a couple of different communities now, all they had to do was focus more on the other characters and film Rick's fewer scenes as a block. Ditto Michonne and Maggie. Basically rotating storylines like they did with hour long daily daytime soaps in order not to wear out the actors.
