Could have been the final episode

The show started with Rick and should have ended with Rick, its just going to be weird without him around. With Maggie sparing Negan and the time jump with Judith taking up his father's mantle it would have serve as a fitting end to the series. Then the movies will continue where Rick left off and it would have been fine.

Something i don't understand about the whole Negan and Maggie scene is that if Negan so desperately wants to die then why not just attack Maggie and force her to kill him in self defence. Or run out the door and be killed by Michonne. Leave them no choice.

reply

Totally. It seemed to me like he was playing Maggie all along. And she fell for it. I hope Maggie dies at the hands of Negan. That would be so fitting.

reply

Yeah, he might have had, i'm tired of Maggie as well, she was alright before she became a leader, now she is just too high on power, i'm glad the actress is leaving after the season. Would be funny and ironic if Hilltop got tired of her crap and hanged her.

In that terribly stupid scene Negan knew that if he did stand up and attack and even kill Maggie, Michonne would definitely kill him, so his only recourse was to pretend to be pitiful and appeal to Maggie's mercy .... and the normally determined and steeled Maggie stupidly fell for it.

This is one reason why you never to right into a fight after a long trip and exertion ... you will have and energy deficit and not be thinking straight.

Negan decided the only gambit he could play to stay alive was to pretend he was pitiful and broken. Maggie blew it by losing her grit and normally steely determination ... in fact she should have found Lucille, or constructed a fake Lucille and bashed Negan's disgusting brains out or just shot him in his cell. She was totally right, and now Negan can sit in prison and plot his return.

Why Maggie would even give him the chance to attack her? There is still the fact that most men are bigger and stronger than most women and Negan would very well have turned the tables on Maggie and killed her.

This proves the point again that on most critical scenes the Walking Dead can confidently be counted on to blow it and do the most stupid thing.

You kinda have to wonder how the real finale is going to go down now. It's going to be very unimpactful focusing the final episode of the show on a character like Daryl, who the writers did a really terrible job of fleshing out and developing as the show has gone on. I know we've heard tidbits that he came from an abusive home, but he hasn't had a proper relationship/dynamic with anyone on the show.

reply

Yeah, they have made Daryl a kind of dog on the side to Rick. On the one hand he is superhumanly strong in his beliefs, on the other he is a broken little boy ... and he still carries around that heavy and limited crossbow ... this show makes no sense.

There will be no final episode.

In a way, I almost feel like the network is disrespecting the show in that regard. They never would've forced Breaking Bad or Mad Men to drag to this point.

IMO....the past few episodes have been very good. It's like a ZA Western. I was worried about how the show would carry on without Rick...but it has taken on a new life. I'm in it for the long haul!
