A literal plot hole...

What a conveniently placed hole for Rick and Daryl to fall into and then randomly fill up with zombies for no apparent reason...

Is this a trap hole they've mentioned at all? It makes sense to place these around their settlements with a wind powered noise maker to lure the zombies and then go and burn the zombies every now again. Like military burn pits.

Or am I mixing this up with something better written?

reply

Wasn’t that part of the plan? I thought Daryl and company dug the hole to trap rick while negan met his maker.

reply

I guess so. Daryl doesn't really give a proper answer when Rick asks him if he's responsible for the hole and perhaps that threw me a bit. It just seems like a terrible plan to me.

reply

What would they even use to dig a hole that narrow, but that deep? I don't think a backhoe could do it.

reply

They have no plant machinery so it looks like fully hand dug with spades and pick axes. You can see the chute indents towards the top where it looks like they've dragged buckets of soil out. All by hand and horses I reckon.

reply

That is quite an undertaking

reply

I was going to say samething. I bet you have calluses on your hand.

reply

Yup, no zombies or other animal remains, or leaves or drifting litter or any other random debris. it's almost like this show sucks ass now.

reply

Well, they continue to have the worst luck of any humans that have ever lived......let's see, we've had a mob of zombies under a glass floor that apparently wasn't designed to hold more than a few thousand pounds and it breaks just as the good guys move over it, we've had a little girl digging in the mud only to have a zombie pop out of the mud to bite her, we've had a rooftop full of zombies who all come crashing through the roof in multiple spots just as the good guys are below.....now it a magic hole in the middle of nowhere which was empty, meaning it hasn't had any zombies fall into it for 4-5 years but, of course, the instant the good guys fall in it is immediately over run with zombies.

reply

don't forget last week at the end when Rick is riding a horse down the highway leading the walkers, and he is shown with walkers coming from every direction and the horse getting spooked ... then this week two whole roads are open for him to ride down?

reply

either way it was pretty stupid. if they built a hole for walkers to fall in, they would have been stupid, negligent and careless not to have some way for a live person to get out ... a rope, a ladder, a pole, a branch ... anything.

reply

Exactly. If it was indeed part of the plan to contain Rick, you'd post someone near the hole just in case. Perhaps a couple of zombies walked into it between leaving it and purposely falling in to it. Land on them expectantly and it's game over. Though we know it's a such a triviality to dispatch them now.

I guess the plan was for someone to come along when the deed was done and get them out? So stupid.
