Pointless contrived conflict - bad decisions

The idea of letting Negan live, basically in life imprisonment
can be debated in a society that is broad and stable where
justice is skewed by racism and economic inequality, but in a
place where everyone can plainly see who and what Negan is
I am not sure it makes a whole lot of sense, especially when
some people, like for example Maggie.

The problem with innocent citizens like Maggie is how they
are going to have to see this guy or even know that he is
alive is a daily trauma and danger ... it is not right, a very
big stupid mistake ... akin to all the dumb mistakes that seem
to drive this show to the point where people just laugh at its
foolishness and aloofness from reality.

There are limited resources and limiting living space, and
a lot of trauma and mental pain and anguish in these people.
Negan was like the Hitler of the new world. Very stupid to
allow him to live, and there is always the slight possiblity
that he can rally his troops, like Napoleon and start more
trouble and murders.

So true. In the comics, Negan is forced SPOILER FOR THE COMIC-
to live in a small jail cell, in a dark basement. Nobody goes to see him, except to give food, etc. Only Carl sees him on a regular basis. They develop a "talking relationship," which Negan has come to really enjoy. However, Carl ever so much, wants to kill him.
yeah, I think rather than have infighting from Maggie and Daryl, they should just find Negan and kill him. The idea to keep him alive is fairyland ... really not practical.

I wonder who will have Lucille for season 9. She gets lonely sometimes and needs to be kept safe.

They should have just had a bonfire and burned her in the presence of all the communities (right after killing Negan). Honestly, I think many of the Saviors were just victims of Stockholm Syndrome and would have been happy to be rid of Negan. Who would want to live in a community run by a madman who punishes folks by burning their faces with hot irons? How can anyone support that?

reply

There is a pecking order. Many of the ones at the bottom are not equipped to survive on their own. They have to do grunt work to get points, but quickly get into debt so even if they want to leave, they can't. Negan wants them living in The Sanctuary to remind the foot soldiers their job is protection of these people. Not just against the zombies, but against groups like Rick's, who only recently snuck into one of their outposts and killed everyone in their sleep. They are mostly rogues with a limited sense of purpose who can be kept in line with a rigid system in place and a bit of motivation. The ones at the top are absolutely untrustworthy and taking advantage of their situation, Negan knows they would plot against him as soon as they got the chance. Some of them like Simon are worse than Negan.

By keeping Negan alive and telling everyone else to go home, Rick showed them he is not what Negan told them he was. And after spending some time in the pen at the Hilltop, some of those Saviors realized it too, and wanted to stay and help Maggie.

Very good assessment. But as Jennie said above, Negan should have been killed. He is dangerous enough to regroup and continue his rampage.

reply

He sent home an army of fanatics who all say "I'm Negan," and there's absolutely no reason to assume they wouldn't return to the Sanctuary, regroup, get behind whoever was next in line and start all over again, maybe launching a raid to free Negan.

Indeed
