Would a change of location help the show?

I think it's safe to say that many people feel the show has gotten stale, lazy and repetitive. Would a new location help? Go to a coast, get on an huge seaworthy ship? Maybe head to some mountains where weather would deter walkers. How about trying to get to a small island and clear it of walkers? I'm tired of them being in the southern woods, which seem like a terrible place to try and settle.

reply

Nope, I thought since they were moving to DC it would change things up, but it is actually just got worse, keeping the characters confined to a boat would get even more boring at least to me.

A big ocean liner is a massive set. I'm not thinking a cabin cruiser. They could fight "pirates" , ocean walkers, seek land. I think they could make a season out of it. I want something visually different, woods are woods.

reply

I agree, I hate the woods. I am sick of looking at the characters walking around the damn woods lol. I'd like to see them in a big city, but the show is too cheap now to pull something like that off.

reply

They wrote it out in the show by saying the cities we're overwhelmed with walkers. No reason they should be if all of the living people are NOT in the cities. I don't think they are trying very hard at this point.

reply

Well FTWD did this to some extent and it got old , fast, too.

reply

It would help, yes, but only to a certain extent. After the Terminus story arc, the show just became extremely stale. And I don't think there is any way around this, it should just have ended some seasons ago.

reply

this is the problem and reason why there was never any zombie shows on tv. how long can you actually keep a story like this going? this show should've been done by year 6 but yet they want to keep it on for another 100 episodes? come on! if this was on a pay channel the series would be wrapping up because those channels get new material and shows to do. if this show goes off the air what in the world will AMC put on?

reply

Yeah, I think they actually did good up until season 4. They had a good thing going with Eugene and a possible cure, but of course, that led to nothing, and they just went on.

reply

I recommend reading The White Flag of the Dead book series. The story completely blows TWD out of the water. If another TV network got the rights and did a proper adaptation, it would be very embarrassing for TWD. Constantly changing locations, establishing outposts, communities, setting up comms, trading routes e.t.c. Basically rebuilding the country. Rather than Rick and the crew sitting around moping with their thumbs up their arses.

reply

I think that would help. When Rick met Glenn in Atlanta it was very tense. I'd love to see scenes in a high rise building , a subway etc.

And this is what is sorely needed : WEATHER ! Rain, snow, wind a tornado, etc something, anything to change us the look of the surroundings.

reply

I never thought of that. Why doesn't it ever rain?

reply

Because searing heat and humidity worked in the beginning seasons, now TPTB think that's all they need for ambiance. Stupid pr*cks!🙄

reply

Wish they would go back to the big cities at some point but its easier and cheaper for the show to be set out in the middle of nowhere etc ... But yeah something needs doing to freshen this once great series up !

reply

I imagine a change in mission would have a greater impact, perhaps paired with location. Like going on to Washington DC.

reply

Lol, they were headed there at one point.

reply

I really want to see why the military was up-ended! Surely there MUST be some units somewhere!

reply

Showing us the actual ruins of DC would be a start.

reply

I would sorely love to see that!

reply

It could work. But it'd need to be a true change, not one only in name that still looks like the same locale. Because their earlier storylines got to feel repetitive, where it was all about being on the road, finding a new place, settling in, then oh, a villain, the place becomes unsafe/battle, on the road again. So, want to avoid falling back into that pattern as well. But a true change might do it good.

Imagine: The end of Season 8 shows the climax of this war, but suddenly switches to a boat, or snowy mountain community, anything really, so long as it's quickly and clearly different. Throws us for a loop, we wonder what happened. Early Season 9, we see which characters are at the new location, as we learn about it, while flashbacks show what happened to the characters who aren't there. Between dying in the war, or en route, or choosing to stay behind after (if a viable option), that would be a good way to quickly thin the herd of the cast as well (frankly I feel the cast is a big unmanageable in size, and I miss feeling like anyone could go any time).

reply

I would love that snowy mountainside venue. FTWD did this without the snow. It was ok. But even that got repetitive.
