we will only tolerate total compliance to the prisoners. Then the jerk Savior tries to grab a gun and she hits him in the head and ...doesn't shoot him?
And why the F did Rick go the Junkyard people?
Really dumb writing this season. Though I did like Carl asking the three questions, and Carol telling the kid not to wander around in the woods (harkening back to Sophia).
I know! Why did he go alone? There is a great quote: "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." Apparently Rich never heard of this.
And, yes, Maggie would have been totally justified in shooting that savior. In fact, it would be required. She just demonstrated that the Hilltop folks are weak.

The problem, itself, is not him going alone, that's only to show good faith, as he said, they have the numbers to wipe them out, plus he was confindent they would take deal. What doesn't make sense is exactly that, why the hell didn't they take the deal? She didn't even seem to consider it, she was quick to say no. Why does she put so much stock in Negan and his group? And what kind of sweet deal is this that she has with Negan that would make her so loyal to him?
IMHO: It's not that the garbage pale douche bags have a "sweeter deal" with Neegans, it's that they RESPECT the neegans more... or fear them - whichever floats your boat.
She got backed down by Neegan COLD during the assault on Hilltop when she tried to "change" the arrangement...
When she did that to Rick during their first meeting, Rick was the one who relented.
They respect the neegans more... and frankly, I'm starting to as well.
Yeah, but that was the point of showing them the photos. To show that the Saviors are in a really bad spot and very possibly defeated. I can't see they escaping without external help, so unless the garbage people know of something that we, as an audience, still don't, I don't think it makes sense that she would say no. After all, if Rick and his people win, and he decides that he doesn't like them anymore, they are ended.
I don't think so!
There'll be a cumbaya song and everyone will try to live together... "thank jesus!"
Fkn writers are pissing me off! I get it... they're maximizing the profitability of the show...
And losers like us, devoted to the show, and watching no matter who the writers kill, and how much SHIT our heros have to eat, we just keep showing up week after week no matter how stupid the story gets!
5, 6 episodes into this season... and we're no further along in the plot than we were over the summer! GD filler episodes!!!
Don't even argue!
It was stupid for Rick to go there alone. DUMB.
And he ain't STUPID... it has been well established since season 1!
So wtf?!
Oh, right... gotta keep the audiences tuning in... more advertising... and GD stupid ass "machete adventures"... more selling of useless crap!
"I don't think so!

Yeah, for one reason or another, Rick's group wouldn't simply destroy the garbage people, not in a direct confront, at least. But we know that because we know the characters and how the show usually plays out. The gabarge people don't know that, they are playing a very dangerous game.
Rick going in there alone was dumb, but if he had stormed in with an army, the garbage people would be even more inclined to turn him down. Bringing along a few more people wouldn't be of any help either, they would still be outnumbered and there would be more of his people imprisoned. He primarily wanted them to support him out of goodwill, not because they felt threatened, that would be a last resort. His people are on their way to his rescue, so the problem will be solved.
"He primarily wanted them to support him out of goodwill, not because they felt threatened, that would be a last resort. His people are on their way to his rescue, so the problem will be solved."
I understand the rationale. Really I do.
What I do not understand is its application here.
It's all to prolong the inevitable outcome.
I read on reddit that the production is always being pressed to "do more with less"... how much does an ad block cost during a first-run episode?
The story's gone nowhere. We've seen a bunch of our fav characters, and some have died, but they could have done that in the middle of the first episode and moved the frak on!
sorry.
one of my buddies warned me... he said this would happen and he was sick of it... and that was after the 4th season.
i should have known better.... had to get curious just cos some hottie was crying while talking about glenn... had to see wtf this was about... binged... and now I hate myself even more than ever before!
Hahaha. Honestly, that final battle for the prison with the Governor felt so damn satisfying, for that alone I think it's worth getting invested in the show. The group's break up following it, made it even more dramatic. Lol
But since I started watching it I already knew I would be following it until the end.
Those were the good old days. Such greatness. The showrunner, and I blame him that freakin' Gimple, has been milking this show for the last four seasons.
It makes sense to go see the Garbage People and try to feel them out but that's something to be done with an armed force under a white flag. You don't start a war and then walk into a camp aligned with the enemy alone.
I can see Maggie's point about using them as bargaining chips. But she's right - those Saviors are never going to assimilate into the Hilltop community. I wouldn't trust a single one.
And I have a hard time believing that barbed wire pig pen is enough to keep them from escaping or sneaking around and taking someone hostage. These Savior prisoners are guaranteed to become a problem in the next few episodes.
Absolutely! All through the last episode that same guy was being arrogantly provocative. It's stupid for two reasons: A) no matter how sadistic and arrogant you are, constantly and repeatedly goading the people who killed half your people and took you captive is STUPID! It's just begging to get shot. Having him do that was dumb. And B) why the hell have Rick's people let him live? He's begging to get shot, so oblige him! He's clearly not cowed into submission, he's clearly going to cause you trouble, he proved that when he tried to grab a gun, why are you leaving an unrepentant, murderous asshole alive to menace you later?
The smart thing to do would have been to shoot him, pour encourager les autres.
Yup. I was expecting her to make an example out him. Put a nice big hole in his head. Splatter some of his brains on his friends. They'll know Hilltop, well, Maggie at least is not to be fucked with.
It's not like they need to worry about the saviors suddenly hating them them for killing one of them. Let's face it, if that group manage to escape, they would happily slit the throats of everyone in Hilltop. It's classic brinkmanship and now that savior group know they can push the boundaries without significant repercussions. They deserve to lose the Hilltop to the saviors because of that imo.
