I rewatched Seasons 1-3, and my goodness, these were the times when the show was just incredible. Smooth pacing, no soap opera feel, no overdone drama or hard to understand mumbling from the actors, just plain great. The music is perfect. Bear McCreary's 'Mercy of the Living' track and remixed track plays throughout Seasons 1-3 in various tones, signifying a world in the post-apocalypse, starting with Morgan trying to decide if he should shoot his zombified wife or not.
The 'Pulse' also known as Governor's Theme, plays in Season 3 as Rick's crew makes their way to Woodbury to get Glenn and Maggie back, and several other times throughout Season 3 and early 4. It's soundtracks like this you don't forget, and when you hear them it stays with you.
Then Season 4 hits, and we get the slow-as-butt Plague miniseries, and then the decent-Governor miniseries, and then the Slow-Walk-to-Terminus Miniseries, and then I realize the show has taken a very bad slide into a place it should never have gone to.
- Slow pacing.
- Music not as good.
- It takes forever for a goal to be accomplished.
- Stale setting. Alexandria's getting very old already.
- Negan just does not feel as sinister or as threatening as The Governor, despite a few excruciating kills.
It's like Seasons 1-3 are their own show, and Seasons 4-7 are a totally different show. Season 8 has to get back on point to 1-3 levels, because if it's anything like the slow Plague episodes, forget it.
The different feeling from season 1-3 and 4-7 is what you get with different showrunners. Darabont and Mazzara had their own vision for the show, whereas, Gimple is overly reliant on the comic and fails whenever he tries to add anything original. For example, the flu in season 4, the walk to terminus and the garbage community.
shareRight, yeah I couldn't remember for the life of me if the Garbage community was in the comics, it just seemed way off, and that haircut--LOL.
And losing Darabont apparently resulted in an early Dale death, very unfortunate--he was one of my favs. Someone messed up bigtime on Andrea, yes she had her sparks of greatness in Seasons 2 and 3, but not like the comic-greatness Andrea.
Watching Governor track her so easily, when all she had to do was slash his truck tires while he was battling walkers was stupid. There were seriously so many places she could have hidden.
Yeah... Except no.
shareDisagree
Its gonna be great ... 'All Out War'
You know you'll be watching;)
NOBODY can not watch Negan.
