I used to be an avid fan of the show from Seasons 1 to 4. Season 5 is when I began to lose interest, and I ended up hate watching the last half of Season 5 and all of Season 6. I have not watched any of Season 7, with the exception of a few clips, and I've already been spoiled the major deaths of this season. Out of curiosity, is this show getting better, maintaining, or has it gotten productively worse?
It was a poor season but I wouldn't give up on the show just yet... hopefully the showrunners will learn from some of the negative publicity and fix it. Homeland was really bad around the third or four season and got better so it's possible for things to reverse. JDM is fine in terms of his acting, but I don't think Negan has much depth as a villain. He's just cruel and at this point one dimensional... they need to flesh him out more to make the character convincing.
I have loved this show from the start, and used roll my eyes at the complaints. But season 7 was bad. Trust me on that. Too many filler episodes, or I think they're called "bottle" episodes. Just boring crap.
Good things just get passed over, like the fight Sasha had with the Saviors was just skipped. She went into their compound, episode ends. The next episode starts with her captured, and then, through dialogue, you got the overview on how the fight turned out. Personally, I don't mind dialogue to fill in the gaps. Implicit scenes are more entertaining. However, in this case, it was obvious that they just needed to save budget and didn't have the resources to pull off a good battle scene. As evident from the season finale. Worst action sequence to date. I bet Asylum Productions could pull off a better episode than these guys are able to.
Pity too, so many good scenes from previous seasons, like the tank assault on the prison, or the crazy zombie herd on the farm in season 2. What happened to those directors? They need to get them back.
But, I don't think the show has sunk to the point of no return. I'm still moderately entertained and captured by the story enough to see what happens next. However, usually around this time in a show's life, is when I begin to lose interest. I've stopped watching many shows right before their final season, and didn't care to see it to the end. I hope this show doesn't end up like that.
I mean what happened to this show? The cheography and visuals from season 1 used to be amazing. Now it's removed by terrible animal CGI effects. The action is just nonsensical. Negan is my favourite character though, next to Steven Ogg's character. All in all, this show went downhill with it's writing, there is more filler than actual plot.
