shareI would've applied that description to Rick, not Michonne, but I get what you're saying. I want my badass woman who doesn't depend on a sig other to determine her actions. Not looking to them like she is now. She's dumbed down to Rick since I guess he be da head of da household now that they're in a ship.
shareI don't see Michonne as depending on Rick or anyone else to determine her actions. That's a real reach. Michonne is smart, not reckless. Strategic, not careless. Collaborative...no longer a loner. Mind you, before the world went bad, she was a family woman and a lawyer. She was smart and intellectual.
She has found an ally and mate in Rick--a true partnership. And together, they rely on the trust they have earned with each other--having each others' backs and leading the others every step of the way. It's important that they are on the same page, and respect each other's priorities. Michonne has lifted Rick up when he's needed it, and vise-versa. And Michonne has counselled Rick toward some very important, key moves along the way. She is one of the few people who has earned his complete respect.
It would be beneath her intelligence not to collaborate and align herself with the alpha whom everyone looks to as a leader. She's no longer reckless and go-it-alone (though she does still endeavor in some things on her own when she feels it's prudent). The fact that she's a team player and works together in a partnership with Rick does not in any way make her weak--it makes her wise. And it makes her human. She has bonded with Rick through all of this. They listen to each other, and they're very good together...both in strategy, and as a couple.
As far as her battle prowess...she has never been tougher. The chick with the gun on her in this last episode had the advantage. Yet ultimately, Michonne won the fight and threw her off the ledge. How is any of that weak? Don't criticise her just because her character is a lot more complex than a roving, one-note, zombie-stabbing mute. Michonne is one of the best, most developed characters on the show.

It's either a character is too independent or too dependent, always the extremes, never the reality.
I agree to a point, with you. She certainly is emoting, now, something she failed to do at any significant level before she and Rick aligned.
But, she is an alpha female and has aligned herself with the ultimate alpha male, The Rickster!! They are one, now. They will balance each other.
I think it started when she hit it with Rick. On her own she wielded her sword like a true sensei and now with someone too care about leaves her vulnerable or softening her up.

shareIt was Andrea that first helped Michonne get her humanity back. And Michonne helps Rick realize...their humanity is what they fight for. It's what separates them from the savages and from the soulless, lifeless zombies. Without their humanity, what's the point of living on. So, let's not criticize Michonne for being a fully fleshed-out, complex, strong, intelligent and yes (parish the thought) even VULNERABLE at times.....woman. Being vulnerable is part of the human condition. It's the ability to be strong amidst that vulnerability....in SPITE of that vulnerability....that makes us bad-ass.
