where did Dwight even come from? Did I fall asleep during the episode? All of a sudden he ended up in a cell, but I never saw him get captured.

It happened off-screen. At the end of last week, he defected from the Saviors and went off with Rosita. All their stuff was kept off-screen this week to keep us wondering and I guess give us a 'big reveal.'

I think Rick just wanted to make Dwight submissive to him.

[spoilers from last episode]

When Sasha and Rosita were going on their mission to kill Negan, they broke apart. Sasha went in crazy and got caught, while Rosita was locked outside of the fence. She turns around and sees a silhouette that looks like Daryl. Now we know it was Dwight all along. And it seems like he is defecting and wants to let Rick know the ins and outs of that Savior base.
