Could the Virus have been caused deliberately by someone? Spoilers

Spoilers for those who have not seen Resident Evil:The Final Chapter.

I was watching Resident Evil The Final Chapter and they explained that the T-Virus was released deliberately by the Umbrella Corporation to infect and destroy the entire world, just like how God flooded the Earth in The Holy Bible to destroy the wicked, Umbrella destroyed all of the rogue nations and powers to emerge victorious and rebuild the world after their goal was achieved, controlled Apocalypse.

The virus that causes people to become Walkers could easily have been artificially created by someone to kill off most of the worlds population and allow someone to emerge as the sole power on Earth, only they found out that there is no cure for it, except to destroy all of the Walkers and rule when they are gone, some group or government somewhere could easily be waiting to emerge and rule, but their cure did not work, now they are screwed.

Basically a cure that failed to work, or waiting for all of the Walkers to rot and then ruling when they are not active, Hawaii or Puerto Rico would be excellent waiting safe zones for this.

Just another theory, probably totally untrue, a controlled Apocalypse gone wrong, or maybe the muslims created it, genetic jihad against the infidels, would suck for everyone including them if it backfired.

"The Division" game has a similar premise minus the zombies. A scientist decided nature needed an assist with thinning the human herd so he created a weaponised smallpox virus by Frankenstein-ing it with the most lethal and virulent aspects taken from other pathogens. For added spice, it has a very short incubation period during which the person is contagious so they're passing it soon after contracting it. The virus can survive on surfaces for as long as 17 days.

He then tainted US currency with it and unleashed it in NYC during Black Friday (the shopping day after Thanksgiving). It ultimately spreads beyond NYC, NJ is next hit but there are reports as far away as TX. The first population decimated is in Manhattan which is now quarantined off while the CDC works on a vaccine.

The guy who created didn't care if he lived or died, he just wanted to thin the herd. That's more dangerous than some kind of jihad because there's nothing the perpetrator wants other than total destruction rather than removing "infidels" and plannig to rule afterward.

You can tell a lot about a person from reading his biography.

another possible motivation is intentionally releasing a virus because humans "deserve it" due to war, corruption, pollution etc. and then the survival of the fittest chosen few emerge to rebuild civilisation.
like in the show, heroes.

Robert Kirkman hasn't thought that far ahead into his story. He says that he basically wanted to focus on a soapopera zombie apocalypse type of story. If the show decides to create a conspiracy theory or go the way of the Resident Evil movie series, that would be so uncreative. Don't you think?

Kirkman has all but confirmed that he will never go into the reason the infection happened or why everyone has it. I'm not sure that's such a good idea on his part, because the show (and the comix also) is running low on new ideas.

The fact that Jenner told Rick that everyone is infected is a huge clue that this was not a man-made event, at least, not at the cellular level. Something is going on at the genetic level if every single person on Earth is going to turn when they die or after being bitten by a walker. No airborne viral infection spreads to every individual on the planet and Jenner was very clear that everyone has it. There must be some way for him to know that, but it wasn't clarified. He told Rick that the French were "close" to a cure but there was no way to contact anyone now.

Kirkman said that he regrets doing the CDC scenes because they revealed too much info. I think this is a sign that we may never be told the cause.
