killing the doctor is bad

when Negan doesnt have a replacement ready since Eugene is untested in his medical skills. Also almost anyone would admit they did it if they could avoid getting the iron(punishment) ,its basically like forcing a confession of a crime that they didnt commit.

reply

Yea killing the doctor was completely stupid.

reply

Agreed, that was really stupid. Negan isn't a moron, he has to have known the "qualifications" that Eugene gave him don't make him any kind of practicing physician. To kill off your medical doctor instead of just punishing him (with the iron or otherwise), is ludicrous.

reply

Negan killing the doctor was really stupid. Completely pointless and offered nothing useful for the Saviors other than offering to their own destruction--which will come soon enough. You don't kill a doctor in the post-collapse, period.

reply

umm Negan can pretty much have his pick of doctors from any of the communities he is involved with. They made a point to tell us that so Im not sure why you think it was a stupid decision... As far as he was concerned, he couldnt trust that doctor...so getting rid of him was actually a SMART move...I swear, its like people cant separate that everything that they see is not what a character sees...look at the situation from Negans perspective......

reply

So he couldn't trust his doctor, but he can trust a doctor from another community? How does that make sense?
Punishing him would've been the smart move, killing him was STUPID. Bad writing overall and a waste of an episode.

reply

It goes beyond trust.

Eugene said Negan believed Dwight over the doctor because Dwight was more indispensable to him. Negan probably has more of a psychological need for a faithful, dutiful and trusty lapdog like Dwight than a generic medical doctor who can be replaced by another like the Hilltop doctor, for instance.

Negan also has this weird ego thing in which he needs to believe that he has completely broken someone so that they would never betray him. He feels that way especially about Dwight since he's his assistant or "second in command".

reply

It does go beyond trust, but i was replying to what TwentytoOneDevotchka said.
Still, even if you need Dwight more, why kill the doctor? What does that prove? I kill everybody that betrays me? Did anybody had doubts about that?
Also i disagree that doctors are indispensable in zday. So you take one from another community ... and what is that community suppose to do? They will die like flies without a doctor and i had the impression Negan wants/needs them to work for him. The way i see it, it's a snowball effect.

reply

I agree- It was a silly move, and very destructive to his community.

reply

I still don't understand the psychological hold that keeps the saviors from just killing Negan immediately. Eugene could see those "wives" were unhappy. It doesn't take a genius to see that Dwight is pissed... maybe a few of the dumb soldiers would continue fighting after he died but the writers haven't done a convincing job of making me believe that there are enough that love him to stand up to a revolt.

reply

Killing off the doctor only proved Negan is not only an unstable sociopath ill prepared to actually lead anyone but his brainwashed kindergarden, but painfully stupid and lacking the most basic people-reading skills. It's not wonder Dwight has managed to deceive him for so long, my goodness, Carol could run circles around this man baby.

reply

The thing is that people love power and soon they come to believe the hype too.. People believe Negan knows everything that's going on and so they don't plot to kill him for fear of reprisals and Negan too believes he is untouchable. Eugene has been told that he is important to these people and so he is starting to enjoy the power and will do anything Negan tells him to keep that power. If Negan was to be killed, there would be a power struggle until someone else stepped into his position and life would continue as normal.
