I don’t think the writers clocked out or were no longer invested in the show after the third season of Haven. If anything, I feel they were more invested with the Mara storyline taking up two seasons and not to mention the comic book that had it all planned in advanced. While I can understand you were not a fan of the last three seasons to say the writers clocked out when the series went on to become more consistent with episodes continuing on to each other as opposed to a handful of separate ones which they could have continued doing is wrong. Everything going forward from Season 4 connected on to each other – from William appearing, Audrey finding out she was Mara, Audrey reverting back to being Mara, Mara’s Mother joining the show, Mara’s father joining the show and a comic book in the Season 4 DVD set that served as a prequel to the show where Mara and William went to Haven and cursed everybody with the Troubles which explained why she was put in the barn in the first place.
If you watch the special features on Season one DVD of Haven the creator says they had most of the show written long before it went to air and when Fringe started they were worried it was too similar to Haven and they would have to rewrite so people didn’t say they copied them so I would say Mara and everything from Season 4-6 (Season 5 Part 2) was the way it was meant to especially Audrey and Nathan ending up together which was obviously going to happen from the first episode but with the Mara character they failed to execute it properly and Mara never lived up to being the powerful witch she was portrayed to be in the prequel – that right where was why Haven got renewed for another 2 seasons after Season 4 but not for a season 7. One could easily say if they hadn’t failed Mara it wouldn’t have been cancelled.
