Remember in "Live Free or Die Hard" when Matt Farrell said news was manipulated, I think it was the same thing.
Capitalism tends to do that. Think of the music industry, which provides countless examples. Think of all of all those punk and alternative bands that signed to major labels. Do you think CBS/Sony execs gave a crap what political messages The Clash were sending? Nah. These companies will exploit any trend, usually watering it down for mainstream acceptance and profit from it.
Doesn't matter to them. It's not hypocrisy on the part of the companies -- because they exist only to make profit. They don't have any other values to go against.
Hypocrisy on the part of the artists working for them? Sometimes.
