The REAL love story? (Not what you think)

The Romantic relationships between the male and female characters are cack handed as in Twilight...

However, it struck me recently that the REAL underlying love story is a Platonic one between Wanda and Melanie, and that this entered the story subconsciously. (I say this because Meyer would probably never write an openly gay story due to her background.) There's nothing physical about it, but in some ways Wanda and Melanie fall in love with each other through a forced closeness.

I've always felt that way.

For me the heart of the story (both the novel and the movie), is the sister-like relationship that grows between Wanda and Melanie.

I love the way they hate each other at first, and I found it very plausible that their relationship could grow and change the way it did.

They love each other, but they're not IN love. They're like sisters, or twins, they have a very special bond. But it's not romantic. And this was intentional, and I agree; it is the real love story in the book.

I do wonder though... they are closer to each other than two humans could be, but whether you want to see this as romantic is another question.

They became family. Sisters, if you will. And I think that was Stephenie's intentions. There's no sin in platonic love, so she'd have no problem writing that.

I actually watched this recently and I have to agree. It reminds me of my daughter in some ways. She was an unexpected life (parasite if you will, as fetus need a mother to grow) that I grew to love.

The boy girl relationships did nothing for me and I wish that the focus was put more on these two characters.
