About Mycroft refusing to shake Watson's hand...

What was the meaning of that part? Is Mycroft also a person with OCD?

reply

It is probably just a crazy quirk that he has. If he was OCD, he would never run around his own home naked in front of other people.

reply

I think it intended to show mycrofts apparent asexuality with even physical contact being forbidden. I thought its the funniest part of the film with Stephen fry playing it to perfection.

Aside from seeming like a funny quirk, I thought it was a literal reference to Mycroft's preference for "hands off" problem solving.

reply

I thought it was joking reference to Iron Man's sequel quirk of not liking being handed things.

I have no real idea, but possible reasons:

RDJ has been accused of playing the same character just in a different era with different tools, responded to with in-joke from director and cast

It was ad-libbed by Steven Fry in homage to RDJ

That is a very funny connection between the two franchises. Never really understood the "don't like to be handed things" from Iron Man. I suppose it's the same as people not wanting to shake hands or (Heaven forbid) be hugged.

It could be a little aspect of character to make Stark more real. Stark doesn't seem to mind Pepper handing him the same thing Coulson was trying to hand him, in The Avengers. They could be making it out to be a matter of trust. He'll accept things from Pepper that he won't accept from a stranger.

I believe it has to do with him not being thought of as a spoiled rich kid. Stark that is.

"I dont need anything handed to me. I can obtain it on my own."

reply

it's probably just to show Mycroft is an eccentric, as he was in the books

reply

And we do get to see Mycroft stark.

Sorry.
