Who should direct SH3?

I'm gonna go with Stephen Sommers....
I know he's hit or miss, but I think he would have some fun with Sherlock Holmes, as long as he doesn't go as over the top as he did with Van Helsing....

imo anyone but Guy Ritchie should direct the next coz i found his style not suitable with the matter the film deals with...i thought it was too much CGI and too much super-slow mo stuff...a bit too much over-stylization

reply

I rather liked his attention to detail. Camera angles. Even the slo-mo.

Is he not directing the 3rd film?

reply

It's his franchise if they make a third one I really hope Guy Ritchie would be the one directing it.

reply

If they're making one more, Guy Ritchie, make a set out of it. If they're making two more, bring in somebody fresh.

It says on his board that he's directing the Man From U.N.C.L.E., so that makes it a long time before he's going to be available to even start preparation for Sherlock Holmes 3. If Jude Law is available, and they get a window in RDJ's schedule, and Guy Ritchie isn't available, I think they should go with another director. That's based on my selfish desire to see Sherlock Holmes 3! Drew Pearce not available? Get someone else. Guy Ritchie not available? Get someone else, but I really think they need to keep Mr. Downey and Mr. Law.

Guy Ritchie. I don't see why they should switch directors IMHO.

Agree on that one.
If they want to switch director, they might aswell reboot the franchise.

I see what you mean, but I don't think another film, with a new cast and style, should really be considered a reboot, personally, as Holmes exist in so many series.

Bond is only primarily active on film (despite the new novels), Batman's cinema exploits are pretty distinct from the comic books, Star Trek only actively exists in the film world.

I suppose I'm saying that the world of Holmes is so broad that the films are only a tiny part. So many versions exist that a new film series would be just another take on it. The character is in the public domain, so no film has a propitiatory right to it. A rival series wouldn't really make sense. So I wish they would hurry up and confirm, or withdraw, as its not terribly likely someone else would have a go at a different Holmes film while a SH3 is tentatively expected.

Having said that, I don't hold out a lot of hope for a third film. Simply scheduling could prevent it. But the cast I think is essential; the tone has been set now, so I would say another director could probably step in, with Ritchie maybe executive producing.

BTW While I'm sure Ritchie did have a strong hand in the visual style, the impetus behind the general tone was producer Lionel Wigram; This project was in discussion and prep for quite a number of years before RDJ and GR were involved. They didn't instigate it.

I love Ritchie's style and I think it works rather well with these movies, so wish he comes back for the third

reply

Is the 3rd ever gonna get made? The gap between the first 2 films was just 2 years. Considering the 2nd was a BO hit, its surprising they aren't speeding up the production for the 3rd. Based on Wikipedia, the last comment on the production from Jude Law was late 2013.

Robert Downey Jr said that SH3 was "in the works" in october this year according to this article. http://www.businessinsider.com/robert-downey-jr-sherlock-holmes-3-is-i n-development-2014-10 But that doesn't really say much. I don't understand why it's taking so long. I thought they would be inspired and get a move on seeing how well the Sherlock tv series is doing.
