Did Neil order the hit?

Confusing story, or lack of it?

I'm not sure if Neil ordered the hit on his sister or not?
Heck, I thought she was his wife for the first half of the movie.

Yeah, the movie was so much better to me when I thought she was his wife. She kinda blew things out of proportion considering he was just her brother. Jeesh!

reply

I thought she was his wife too.
What a mess of a movie.

I don’t think he had anything to do with the hit.
His luggage was taken so information about him and his sister was most likely discovered.
I wonder if that hit on the beach was intended for Neil?!

reply

No. He had absolutely no reason to have his sister killed. i thought it was all pretty straightforward, his motivations for everything pretty much explained by the reveal toward the very end.

Speaking of the end not good IMO. Hes sick in the hospital and his girlfriend is laying in his hospital bed. He gets up and leaves. Last scene shows a picture of a shirt overlooking the beach. The end? What's up with that?

Yeah, I think the inuendo with his sister was planned. Why would someone travel with his sister and her teenager kids, this is usually an uncommon setup. But they should have clarified this much earlier, like directly after he got his girlfriend, but the truth is only revealed some time later and then it was still not clear, if he not just lie to her.
His reasoning was maybe really associated to the cancer, the doctor said, that it is spread already, so it might also affect his reasoning. But even without that, and the full context, we can theorize that he was likely only in the business because of his mother and after her death he could finally let go - exactly what he was showing the whole movie. He didn't wanted to be controlled anymore, that's also why he ignored the orders of the doctor, he preferred a short life in freedom.

The hit was done by his taxi driver and his friends. They likely obtained already before some information from him, that's why they befriended him. They knew, he has actual money and they concluded that the sister (maybe for them also seen as the wife) is the actual money pot and that's why they attacked them. But for me, it didn't looked like a hitman job, but an attempt to rob them. That is the problem in these areas of the world unfortunately, that also robbers are willing to kill to get money. Maybe another reason could be also a kidnapping attempt, but I highly doubt it was a hit job. You saw how "professional" a hit job was working in that area, you come in, shoot directly on target and ran. They didn't do that, they wanted to get inside the car.
