Who seen it ? Is it better than His Name was Jason ?
I am bidding this at eBay right now. I am curious that's all. Since of the cast & crew are interviewed for this documentary.

shareI really enjoyed it. I saw His Name Was Jason also but I'd say this is better.
shareThis documentary is 1000 times better!

I count myself as a Friday the 13th fan first, but I have to say that Never Sleep Again easily tops His Name Was Jason. With some of the same key people behind the production of both, what happened with HNWJ? I know that Dan Farrands was quoted as saying it was due to a loss of focus, but there has to be more to it than that. Perhaps Starz/Anchor Bay had something to do with it. Never Sleep Again is everything I expected His Name Was Jason to be.
shareIt is MUCH better IMO. Much more in depth. His Name was Jason runs about an hour and half, Never Sleep Again runs about four hours..and that isn't counting the extras.
shareThanks for all the info. I guess, i will watch Never Sleep Again with His Name was Jason as a Double Feature. Once i get Never Sleep Again.
share13thslasher, I completely agree. This is everything that HNWJ should have been. I loved that this showed the good and the bad of the productions. People seemed honest about issues going on on the set. I liked that it broke each movie up seperatley and delved into each one. I liked how they interviewed a ton of cast and crew.

I liked HNWJ, but it's nowhere near as extensive or fan-catering as Never Sleep Again. If you're a fan of the Elm Street series than you'll love NSA.
BTW, why bid for it on E-Bay when you get can get the DVD and an awesome signed poster by Heather Langenkamp on the documentary's website? Trust me when I tell you it's worth every single penny and then some.
I would very much agree this dvd is alot better than his name was Jason I Personaly think that Halloween 25 years of Terror and Nightmare Legacy are the 2 best horror documentary's out there today. I feel his name was jason was the people making fun of the films with also talking about them.
shareThis a excellent documentary that clearly deserves a 10/10 and also well worth the 30 dollars. I would easily say never sleep again is much better then the mediocre his name was jason.
shareI'd say His Name Was Jason was better because it was entertaining while this was simply just an in depth doc.

I didn't think much of His Name was Jason personally. I thought it was overly gimmicky, poorly put together, and sorely lacking in so far as either good anecdotes or actual information given about the films themselves, their making, and those who participated. It was very much a puff piece in my opinion, and Friday/Jason fans deserved better.
Never Sleep Again however is the exact opposite, a four hour doco where the time just flies by. It is amusing, informative, in depth and honest, and gives both the good and the bad of the Elm Street series equal time and attention. It is the best retrospective film documentary that I've seen since the Blade Runner doc Dangerous Days. If you are even a casual Nightmare or Freddy fan then this is well worth tracking down and watching, and if you're a big fan then it's downright essential.
If I had one nitpick, it's that Heather Langencamp isn't a very good narrator, she just doesn't have the vocal range or presence for that kind of thing, but the narration is sparingly done anyway, so it's not exactly a big deal.
HNWJ was a disappointment. The main problem was that they tried covering eleven!!! movies in 90 minutes, which is just absurd. So the outcome was that we really haven't learned anything new (most of it was already covered in the DVD extras of all the sequels). Why restrain yourself to 90 minutes? It's a DVD release!

Its way better then HNWJ because it is longer and they get enough time to cover the all saga, including the tv show and it is also way better then any extras that was released with the Nightmare on Elm street collection.Highly recommended!!
shareI can't say I disliked HNWJ.. but was disappointed in its lack of depth. As was pointed out, you are trying to cover 11 films in 90 minutes? Heck.. most movies get more time than that for ONE story.
So.. yeah. NSA really does benefit from the whole longer running time.. and getting to break it up into sections.. and getting a bit more behind the scenes, which HNWJ tried to do.. but just didn't really, literally, have the tiem to do.
plus I kind of wish they had had more on the.. I don't know.. I guess Jason was not quite the "rock star" that Freddy was.. but still he did have a television spin off series (not really covered, like they did with Freddy's Nightmares here).
Just those.. odd things that can.. spring up around a film series.. they even mention ONE of the actress' (who totally escapes me) being the mother of Violent (robot dancer girl) from Friday 5 (with a brief clip).
Just little touches like that really worked.. although for the narration as someone said was weak.. I found it FINE.. but I liked Tom Savini's campy transitions that fit into the Friday world so well.
It's a whole lot better than the Jason documentary.
shareHis Name Was Jason was a ludicrous excuse for a documentary, which revealed nothing new, featured a bunch of people who had nothing to do with the movies, and was essentially a collection of sound bites, rather than an informative exercise.
Never Sleep Again is the definitive Elm Street documentary, hands down...revealing for the first time information that even die-hard fans didn't previously know, featuring in-depth commentary from almost every major player involved in the creation of the various films (with a few notable exceptions), and a four-hour runtime that never drags. Entertaining, informative, full of surprises.
So yes...it's better. Much in the same way that pizza tastes better than dirt.
