One thing that seemed to be consistent with all the films

Is that they were all rushed into production, were on ridiculously tight schedules (and limited budgets for special effects) and often times with scripts changing as they went along.

I would've thought that with the success of the first film (and capitalising on the second), that they would've put more care into future installments and given them time to develop.

That was, sadly, the New Line way. They never really valued the series, just the cash that it could make for them, and they always wanted to turn over the next installment as quickly (and cheaply) as possible before the bubble burst. Englund has talked extensively about this before, and I think he also addresses it in his book as well.

Even though New Line was the house that Freddy built, Freddy himself was always the black sheep of the family.

Honestly, it's amazing that many of the sequels prior to Craven's return with New Nightmare were as fun and watchable as they were, given that they often had such tight schedules, unfinished scripts, low budgets and Bob Shaye trying to penny pinch at every concievable corner...

It's interesting then, that they would happily place such a big gamble on financing Lord of the Rings.

that's just how it was in the 80s. horror franchises spit out a sequel on almost a yearly basis and in some cases literally on a yearly basis.

you didnt really notice it at the time, well least the kids didnt. lol because i was introduced to this franchise with Part 3 on VHS. and while it feels like i was a fan for a few years before i saw Part 4 in theaters, the fact is there was less than a year between the two events. lol

Well it was starting over again in the 90's as well (Scream3,I still know what you did last summer)They had some really crappy sequel back then...

that's what i thought, and yes, considering the time and financial restrictions, it's amazing that the movies turned out entertaining. just imagine how good they could have been with more money, more time to flesh them out and maybe also better the directors, not ones that were cheap.

reply

Thats how most movies are made. It seems you never have the budget you need or enough time to actually finish the films.

reply

better directors? do you mean already established directors? because every director from this franchise (bar 2 and 6) went on to do very successful films. that just shows that the directors they hired had untapped talent...if these same directors had more time and money...that would be amazing.

Yeah
