Thank God I went with my gut and saw it....I LOVED it!

Here's the bottomline: Its not your conventional action movie. If you love the type of action-packed films Schwarzenegger makes, then obviously this ain't for you. This is more of a stylish art-housey thriller/character study than anything else. Yes, the pace is slow and its a little low on action scenes, so what? It never feels boring, IMO. People that hated this movie went into it expecting an action thrill ride with TONS of martial arts fight sequences by Gina Carano. Its no edge of your seat stuff. I don't think Soderbergh intended it to be so.

I must say I was bummed out by the tsunami of bad reviews on this board. I was wondering WTF people are calling it "boring" and "horrible" despite the fact its getting awesome reviews critically. I almost gave up on it, and I'm so glad I didn't. I liked "Haywire" quite a lot, but I do understand why a lot of people dislike it. But just because its not your cup of tea doesn't mean its "horrible". I find it to be a thinking man's intelligent thriller grounded in reality. Frankly, I've never seen action scenes more realistically shot than the ones in this movie.

Glad you liked it. This is one of those movies that tries really hard to be "smart" and its really not. I suspect it will have a cult/niche like following. Full of awkward camera shots and highly choreographed (and repetitive) fighting scenes

It wasn't the fight-scenes that were bad,it was the incredibly transparent plot, combined with the lack of acting ability on the part of Gina Carano. Which shouldn't surprise anyone since she's actually an MMA-expert and not an actress. There was really no surprises in this movie. Obvious from the start that she had been betrayed, and who betrayed her. Only thing I wasn't sure of from the beginning was which side Michael Douglas was on. When you talk about stylish/art house thriller I think of SPARTAN by Brian De Palma. It's not brilliant, but It's good in its own way,has less of a see-through plotline, and all the actors are actual actors.

I agree with the OP. This was a different kind of action flick, and in this case different was good.
