I watched it again yesterday...
... You see, the guys at the Fantasticast ("your podcast guide to the Fantastic Four, every issue, every spin-off, every cameo appearance!" http://www.thefantasticast.com/) released their audio commentary for the movie exclusive to their Patreon backers, so I decided to go ahead and do it, playing it along with the cheap Blu-Ray I picked up not long ago.
The commentary was really good. I expected the guys to "take the piss" out of the movie as they're a couple of British guys who like to have fun, but instead, they decided to talk about where the movie was getting its ideas from, trying to appreciate where the creators were coming from, and even admitting why it ultimately doesn't work. I expected a fun "hate watch" experience, instead it helped you think again about the movie. And they acknowledge the behind the scenes tampering and say whose fault the end result is.
Their point that they make in the beginning and eventually return to is, "It's not as bad as everyone says, but it's not good, either, and ultimately, it's forgettable." They even compare it to Batman v Superman without loving that either.
So, anyone who'd be interested in it, I'd recommend it. Note that in order to get it, you have to either donate to their Patreon campaign or wait until they release it for free. (They're anticipating not being able to record a regular episode during the summer and plan to release it as a fill in then.)
What we see and what we seem are but a dream. A dream within a dream.share
