I'm looking forward to this show. It looks like it comes to AMC on June 12th.

This looks to be the latest round of Joe Leaphorn novels brought to the small screen. I enjoyed the PBS Leaphorn shows so I hope that these closely follow the books. It looks like there are six episodes so it would be cool if they covered each book in six episodes. I'm concerned about the title since it doesn't mention Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee or Tony Hillerman.

According to IMDB and AMC the first episode is this Sunday, June 12th. I'd hate for you to miss the first episode πŸ™‚

Thanks. Good catch! I will edit my post to show the correct date. I incorrectly assumed that the premiere date would be the AMC Plus date. AMC Plus usually shows the content a week early.

It's a very good show, rated 8.0 on IMDb.

I watched the first four episodes and I enjoyed it. It feels like I am watching a show from the seventies so that's cool. It looks like the tough female cop did not appear in the original book. The female cop appeared in a Tony Hillerman novel as the girlfriend of Jim Chee but it looks like Hillerman's daughter chose to expand her role as the primary detective in subsequent novels.

I hope I'm not getting suckered into a woke switcheroo show that bills itself as the Joe/Jim show but later becomes the Bernadette show. A lot of the MCU/Star Wars shows have featured aging male heroes who are overshadowed by their sidekicks from underrepresented communities.

I've seen every episode except the last one which will air tomorrow night, and am enjoying it with two exceptions:

1. I think you might be right about the old switcheroo. Hollyweird is so fucking deep into woke shit, that seems
like a good possibility. If that happens, I will be very disappointed. Can't anyone stand up to the woke mob?

2. WTF was with the "black magic" where the old witch woman caused Bernadette to pass out, and then she freed
the prisoner. How the fuck did she do that? Is this a realistic show, or is this Sci-Fi?? That took me right out of
the episode.

BTW, I think Bernadette is a dead ringer for that moron AOC.

AOC is fun to look at even if her sanity is questionable

I don't even like to look at that dumb cunt.

I am a huge fan of Zahn McClarnon and I'm dying to see this. Sadly it's not available in my country yet. Same thing with Longmire, another show that McClarnon is in.

McClarnon's presence makes the show's future a gamble. He's a pretty good actor, but he has a lot of substance abuse issues that have affected productions he's been involved in before. Hopefully that's behind him and he won't blow it.

reply

I think he is a fantastic actor. I know of his substance abuse issues, but I didn't know that those issues had affected production. He is clean and sober now and I don't think there has been any problems on the set of Dark Winds (I'm not 100% sure though so don't quote me on this).

McClarnon was a guest recently on Marc Maron's podcast where he talked about his addiction, sobriety and other stuff. He's a really interesting guy.

Most of these actors are on drugs anyway so I don't see his addictions as a problem... unless is/was using fentanyl. RIP Michael Kenneth Williams! Most of the greatest artists have been on various drugs. The Depp-Heard trial revealed that Johnny Depp began the day with bottles of wine followed by cocaine and whatever else was available. I would say that NOW is the time to quit using drugs since so many of them are laced with fentanyl.

McClarnon was really good in both Longmire and Dark Winds. Longmire also featured Lou Diamond Phillips and he played Leaphorn in the nineties. Longmire is on Netflix in the US and it's one of my favorite shows.

I still enjoyed Dark Winds but I'm concerned about how faithful the show is to canon. The show is based on two books but the female cop did not appear in either of those books. The show also did not favorably portray law enforcement and I don't think that was faithful to the books.

Michael K Williams death was shocking to me, he was another favourite of mine. I'm sure that McClarnon wasn't using fentanyl. I've done my fair share of drugs in the past and seen addiction close by. But now I'm fine with beer every now and then.

I've wanted to watch Longmire for years now but for some reason Netflix doesn't have it here. Hopefully Dark Winds ends up on Netflix or some other streaming service in the near future.
