What did it do for the plot by making it Harken's birthday? It just seemed weird. I love this film by the way.

shareGood question. I think partly it was to add a small unexpected twist. Also it made the plot work out better. Otherwise, what would Harken's wife have said when they all three showed up? How would Harken have gotten the better of the three of them? How would they have gotten away, etc.
