Auggie the Hypocrite?

I laughed at the absurdity of last night's episode. He's trying to take the moral high ground talking about how he never puts the mission before Annie as though he's some kind of moral barometer on the show. Meanwhile he's sleeping with the French girl and lying to his girlfriend. All the while claiming he had a "connection" with her. He's got "connections" with a lot of ladies, but he shouldn't complain to Annie because he's just as bad as her, but in a different way.

reply

Yeah he seems to sleep around with any girl. And then the fans say he's Annie's boyfriend/lover. So much for that.

reply

Do people honestly like Annie and Auggie together? IMO they are one of the worst most forced couples I have seen on TV in years. Auggie seems to fall madly in love with EVERY woman he has ever slept with and they all seem to die or go dark on him. But he was quick to break up with
Annie when things got a little tough. Let he is letting what's her name on the run from the DBI move in with him?

The only girls that he has blown off has been Hayley and Annie. And he has had a lot of women come and go in his life. Annie is nothing special to him.

reply

I agree. They aren't the best spy/crime couple ever.

reply

Well I don't know about their romance but I don't think Annie could possibly ask for a better friend. Auggie has always been unconditionally supportive of her in all her decisions. Never asked for anything other than her trust. So I do feel Annie is special to him. I feel pretty certain that the only reason he's continuing his relationship with Haylee is to keep tabs on her investigation into Annie, given that Haylee mentioned nothing about Natasha.

reply

I agree he is a great friend for her. But to be totally honest Auggie seems, for lack of a better word, odd with the women in his life. He seems totally 100% committed to all of them, totally in love, and seems heartbroken when they suddenly leave like they all do. And then 2 episodes later he is as equally in love with someone else. It just makes no sense to me.

I really liked Annie and Auggie as just friends, they have a great chemistry and the friendship seems so real. But the romance seemed forced and the build up didn't feel natural to me at all. But with regards to him staying with Haylee just for Annie's benefit, I'm not sure about that. IMO he would do the same thing for anyone on his team, being he comes from a military background and they all have each others backs in the military. Just my opinion. I am not saying what he's doing isn't great for Annie, but imo it's more about the team than her personally. I think he would do the same for Joan in a heartbeat.

reply

I agree that he would probably do that for others he's close to as well. But in this particular situation I felt it was relatively clear that it was Haylee's suspicion of Annie which prevented Auggie from breaking up with her. Auggie has shown to be protective of her in the past and I do believe in this circumstance he sees that Annie could be in trouble. He already knew that Haylee was investigating the bombing and he was still going to break up with her so I think the vital part of the conversation that changed his mind was what Haylee said about Annie. We'll see if I'm right or wrong.

As for Auggie's love life, I think the whole romance thing has been horribly mishandled. I don't have an issue with the Annie/Auggie romance but the abrupt way in which they have reset it bothers me because its not remotely realistic. I did like them as friends and I would have preferred if they had let it stay that way. But if they were going to go through with the romance, they should have let it stay. This particular situation with Natasha and Haylee with Annie's secret in the balance is a particularly strange piece of writing.

Along time ago I thought I would like the idea of Annie/Auggie - then it happened and I was like WTF was I thinking? they were better as friends, but Auggie isn't really a friend of Annie's anymore, his body language especially towards Annie (yeah like you are so better than Annie) - he acts so differently w/her now but good riddance - let it be strictly work b/w them. Besides Auggie's ass is on the line right now for hiding that French fugitive bitch Tasha - oh and banging her as well, and also screwing his "so called gf Hailey" and lying to her - yeah Auggie keep your mouth shut! Its sad that I miss the old friendship of "lets grab a beer" of Annie/Auggie, I think Auggie is the one whose turned into an *beep* he now treats Annie like s**t! I don't even like them in the same scene together, b/c Auggie is a hypocrite prick!

reply

Auggie has become a man whore this season so he better NOT ever point fingers at Annie - it was Auggie's lost when he and Annie split!!

reply

What does any of this have to do with Annie and Auggie's split? They mutually agreed to stay separate.

reply

While what he did wasn't morally right (choose a girl already!), it didn't make him a hypocrite. His speech to her was about her abuse of their friendship, and his actions didn't violate their friendship at all. Oh and Natasha is Russian, not French.

He's talking about Annie abusing his friendship. Say what you want, but Auggie has probably been the most loyal friend to Annie that anyone could ever wish for. He was pissed that she was abusing his friendship. He wasn't using his behavior as a moral barometer but he was just pointing out what I already said which is that he has always put his friendship with Annie above everything else, something which Annie seems to have forgotten.

reply

Yup, I agree with the last two posters. It wasn't about a moral standard - don't forget that Annie slept with her target - Simon - while she was trying to convince us she was in love with Auggie.

Auggie's speech was about friendship and he was mad because she chose to complete the mission, therefore double cross him. He rightfully called her on it.

reply

I don't agree and their friendship had nothing to do with it. He kept insisting that he "could turn her" and he obviously could not, unless his penis is magic or something, which it may just be with the way women seem to throw themselves at him. I see nothing wrong with what she did. He's being a big baby.

reply

He never got a chance to. I think its pretty reasonable to believe that Auggie would have got the key from her given how much she was into him. It was about trust. Auggie showed an immense amount of faith in Annie last week, something which was not reciprocated this time around. He has every right to be pissed at her.

reply

While Auggie had the right to be angry, he was unreasonably and irrationally angry. Annie was operating on a time-critical mission. Auggie lost sight of that. Pun intended.

Auggie kept talking about being honest with Natasha. Well, there it was. He needed her key there and then; not when he got her pardon from the FBI in exchange. Instead, he needed one more lovemaking session to persuade her. Really! It'll work this time.

Yes! What kmd11 said! Auggie told Annie he always put her ahead of the mssion, but Auggie seemed to forget that they even had a mission, and that they were on a deadline. Yes, he might have turned Natasha *eventually* but their window of opportunity would have closed.

reply

Didn't he cheat on Annie? He seems to have claimed a strong love for Annie and then when he hears she is very sick and can tell is still alone from being out in the cold, he just plows ahead with any woman he can find. He just is coming across skezzy.

Yes, compared to previous seasons when he had some serious plots, this year it's pretty lame. Remember when he was with a girlfriend in Eritrea and they had to mount a big escape plot; and then when he had his own amazing ep when returning to Iraq for the sake of healing soldiers? And now this romantic ménage a trois trap he's in is a bit goofy.

So he picks up again with a former flame wanted by the FBI. Uh. Okay. Then he tells Joanie about his situation, but doesn't mention she's a criminal on the lam? Joanie just thinks it's some girl he's met. But agrees he has to keep both women on the string because of the things Hayley is telling him about the internal investigation? Okay.

Is having this season's entire plot line for Auggie revolving around his performing willy the best they can do for him?

reply

I don't even care anymore. I'm just dragging along with the show until it's bitter end, hopefully. I don't seem to care about any of them any more. So sad but true.

reply

I hear you.

There are some shows I've given up on and just read the news reporter recaps the day after. It solves the problem of curiosity about what happens to the characters without wasting an hour. LOL!

This show is fast becoming that type of show. The "fun" is gone and it's just plodding through all of the plot points like they are on downers.

The original formula from the first 2 seasons was pretty fun--it was over the top and a bit kooky, and Annie was intense but the show never pretended that it was "The Honourable Woman" or a show like that that you were expected to take seriously.

So they sort of forgot what caused the show to become a hit in the first place. And veered off into dark stories and the playfulness went. And with Eyal also went some funny and playful scenes with Annie and Eyal always annoying each other.

reply

If a show still has to rely on "playfulness" in its fifth season, something is wrong. Means there is not much depth there. I love the fact the show has gone darker the last two or so seasons. It's called evolving. Taking risks. If the show ever hits the reset button and becomes "playful" again, well I'll certainly lose interest. First two or so seasons were honestly boring as hell to watch at times.

reply

I like the character-development, definitely : Annie, and Joan & even sort-of Arthur, Calder -- I don't see much in Auggie but the writers take care of his boytoy aspects in 8 Grounded -- they give the job to Hayley and she does a starring-role delivery.

reply

I was glad that Hayley told Auggie off on how he used her and dumps her when she was no longer useful. Everything she said was correct.

reply

Too bad AJJ's acting was off...

And yeah, she did have a point telling Auggie off, but her exposing Annie's heart problems after seeing Auggie with Tash made her a vindictive little troll. She was going to keep it to herself, as she told Auggie while they were still together, but she did it to spite him.

Way to go, such a true professional. I'm glad she's out, she's annoying as hell.

reply

Not trying to support or defend Auggie here, but everyone seems to forget that Annie has used people for information as well and I'm certain that many of the other characters have too and no one cared when they did it. Yet as soon as Auggie does it, people call him names and want him told off.
Oh, and I don't believe for a moment that Hayley DIDN'T report Annie because of the fact that she saw Auggie kissing another woman. She was pissed and took it out on Auggie's friend.
