This last episode crossed the line for me...

Yes...I understand it is a t.v show...and I understand that it is not real...but when Annie wears high heels in the field in a situation in which it is NOT required or part of the character (like if she was trying to play a certain part).

I also hate when she acts invincible and places herself into situations in which the only way to get out is to shoot her way out.....

Both her and that other lady walked down the stairs trying to be quiet in clapping heels and then had fights with grown men and didn't find the need to remove their shoes??

Maybe I am just nitpicking...but this bothers me quite a bit...

reply

I was thinking the same thing when they were clopping down the stairs, very stealthy;-)

reply

That was one horribly choreographed fight.

I agree she's not a convincing spy. As I said, Sydney Bristow, despite the ficitonal Rambaldi stuff, is a better depiction of a CIA spy.

reply

I completely agree. She isn't convincing as a spy at all. She almost never wins in a fight. Someone usually steps in to help save her life. She makes stupid decisions sometimes. Sydney Bristow was a much better spy. I still enjoy Covert Affairs, but it bothers me when they try to sell her as this tough and edgy spy. She just started using a gun in Season 3.

This show can't even hold a candle to Alisa and Sydney Bristow. I also think Jennifer Garner was a far better actress. This show feel campy compared to Alias. Annie feels like a wannabe spy compared to syd. I only started watching this show out of a mix of curiosity and boredom. Now that I've been very busy with other things, when I go to my tivo I'm hard pressed to actually make myself watch the episodes. I have a mild curiosity of what is to come, but I kind of don't care. I'd actually rather watch Alias on amazon prime come to think of it. Guess it's time to remove this from the season pass list. But it was fun for a few years. I'll give it that.

reply

Alias was all science fiction spying with Rambadli but yes Jennifer Garner was and is way better.

reply

You realize the whole series was fictional, right?

reply

I'm not dumb you dummy

What? Is Annie's character based on a 'real person'?

Too many TV shows do this. I don't know how many times I've said, "take those stupid shoes off" when watching a female detective, spy, etc. in a chase scene.

reply

I agree them wearing high heels and expect to be unnoticed was silly.

reply

I zip ads since I record the show. It seems like they spend a lot of time showing shoes- even on the promo parts recently (the short ads on other USA shows), they were showing a brown short boot at the end. Is there a shoe company that has ads on the show? Seems like an awful lot of product placement.

I agree on the topic. Fashion should follow form on an operational agent.

Dean Winchester: I'm wearing sunglasses at night. You know who does that? No-talent douche bags!

reply

Agreed! It's as if the writers think that female spies are a fantasy and not a reality. Like, hey, give the women a nod of respect and depict them, at the very least! as competent.

ETA - She can wear the heels in a sex scene, though. For noodles' sake, it was THEN that the writers decided to remove her shoes!

Backwards! Just, backwards!

Debate my points. Challenge my perspective. Prove me wrong. Only, do it with a smile.

reply

You ever watch Rizzoli and Iles? Iles wears ridiculous shoes. CSI is not too bad on shoes but the low cut skin tight tank tops are also ridiculous, but the men viewers probably don't complain about that.

reply

Fortunately, shows that do these abuses are few and far between. Fiona from Burn Notice did it from time to time. And Sydney from Alias stylized it to no end.

Maybe the female lead just likes high heel shoes ......... she is a producer on the show so she has some clout with the creative team.

Also, someone mentioned that Annie just started using a gun is Season 3. If you remember back to the beginning of the show, she was pulled out of the training academy because her language skills were needed on a case before she had completed her firearms training. Didn't they send her back to the academy to complete that training as part of a case? Do I remember that correctly?

reply

Yes they did. But she still didn't use a weapon after that episode. It wasn't until she started to feel like she was in danger without one that she asked Joan for permission to get the licence.

Product Placement?

But, I agree...about the heels. They were not just high; they were ridiculously HIGH!
