Amy Jo Johnson is in this?!?
I guess I'd better start watching.
shareWhy? Acting isn't her strong suit. :D
shareLOL! It's such a shame, Hayley was a great character on paper. Very interesting, with a lot o truths to be told. Unfortunately, AJJ ruined her. :(
shareReally? I've seen her act her ass off in plenty of things, though I'll be fair and say I've yet to watch Flashpoint or her episodes of CA.
Just now starting this show, I'm gonna take a guess and say it's the fault of the writing which is a mess. Or maybe she's simply miscast.
But to say she's not a strong actress is just not true.
She might be ok in other things (she's pretty well known, at least in TV land, so I guess that accounts for something), but I think she was miscast. I've seen the sides for Hayley; on paper, she was a very strong character. She was described as a gladiator. Have no idea why AJJ went with such a mousy approach. Hayley said she was in charge all the time. I saw something else.
shareYeah, possibly a miscast. AJJ's strengths lie in portraying vulnerability, which may be counterproductive in the character you described.
That's a shame.
This. She does seem to be able to do wonders with emotional characters, dramatic arcs and all that.
I'm not sure I'd recommend starting CA just for Hayley, maybe just see her arc/episodes if you're a big fan of AJJ. Tho the show might grow on you. Also, S4&5 are very different from first three.
Thanks for the heads up. I do also like Christopher Gorham, so I'm going to see how far I get!
shareThis show has a tendency to take decent actresses who aren't Piper Perabo and sabotage their characters to make them look stupid, weak and inconsistent. It's all in the service of making Annie look like a super spy. They did it with Jaimie Alexander and Michelle Ryan too. The only one who doesn't come out looking like an idiot is Joan.
shareHm. You do have a point. The discussion around the show is mostly on Twitter and everyone, regardless of their liking Annie or not, is complaining about how weak Michelle Ryan was, and not only.
Joan is a different thing. While she's still very strong and Kari is actually great, I don't think they know what to do with her character apart from being a badass. It's like every season she has a different side: the scorned wife, the drug addict, now they added a big secret...The problem is none of her arcs are really resolved. It feels like everything's left in the air.
With this show, you just have to take one part to enjoy and really ignore the rest.
Yet again, they had a scene where Annie ran after someone (Caitlyn) after the bombing, and she was the only one in an alley looking for her. With all the security and CIA people running around that bombing? I made the comment: "So, we have Supergirl Annie, the only one who can run after a suspect, and everyone else is wandering around somewhere else being bumbling idiots". So she can have another fight scene.
"Congratulations. I'm a hundred years old."
