Why does Auggie have lamps on his bedside table?
Seems like a waste of money. Paintings on the wall too.

shareAlso how did he know it was 530 in the morning?
shareHe's not always alone in bed and he probably has (cheap) paintings so his place doesn't look so bland to his guests. Same reason he likely has mirrors.

People don't buy matching lamps for the occasional overnight visitor. If he lived with someone, I'd say you had a point, but there's no way people are going to spend money on functional crap that they would never use for "the occasional" overnight visitor.
And I still want to know how he knew it was 530.
Not true. Every single guy I knew way back when bought matching decor for the women they brought over or when family would visit, instead of just random stuff that they would have preferred. This was to show the visitors that they weren't slobs and could actually decorate a room and keep it looking nice.
It had nothing to do with their personal taste. I mean it is possible to decorate mannish and still look nice of course. I guess that's what I mean, but your place, just like your shoes, clothes, haircut, demeanor, mannerisms, tell other people about you. Women especially want to see 'you' in your place and if you are displaying sparseness with no personality or sense of style or just a lack of caring about your home then the odds are they won't be back or may even leave in the first place. Friends and family are less worried about this but a lot of people want to feel comfortable where they are and decorating nicely helps them do this.
He usually keeps his wrist watch next to the phone, on the nightstand. He could've checked easily, it's what they've showed him do in S4, when Helen drops by in the middle of the night.
shareYes, and we saw that special watch in the alleyway that was dropped. (Or Auggie dropped it to mark the area where he was kidnapped into the vehicle.)
As for the décor in Auggie's place, wayyyy back when maybe in season 1 or so I thought he told Annie something about having a decorator in or dating a decorator or something that explained the additional touches in the place that went beyond the gizmos he uses in order to operate within his home.
I can't remember....but there was a reason the writers put in there that explained why he had such a cool crib.

I checked the scene. He didn't check the watch.

chicks dig it
shareWhat kind of stupid argument is that? If that was true, why bother buying lamps at all. Seems like a "waste" to have lamps in general for the occasional overnight visitor...why not let them just spend the time in complete darkness...
PS: Every blind person I met or know has nightstand lamps etc...furniture is meant to be functional, but for a lot it's also a "statement" of their personality and style.
I also know of deaf people who got radios in their home...cause you know...he might happen to have friends who are not deaf who would like to hear the radio if they want to. And it's not like a radio is an investment, so are lamps...they are meant to make an apartment look "lively and cosy"...
TL:DR: Logic...
Has it also even been explained if his character can maybe see images?
People often think, blind means they can not see anything. When, they very well may be able to see blurry or cloudy images.
A good example of this would be Christine Ha from MasterChef. She is considered blind, but has said what she sees is like trying to looking thru a steamy room from a shower. So she isn't in complete darkness and in fact said, very bright light, such as when they were taping, can be very hard on her.

His women need to see that he is using condoms properly, and that they don't come off 'before'; the paintings are there like they are in motels. Do YOU go to motels to look at 'artwork'?
