Institute of Historical Research Screening and Q+A

Last night I went to a screening of the third "chapter" of the series, followed by a Q&A with Kuznick and Stone, as part of the Public History Seminars held by the University of London at Senate House.

I was pleasantly surprised how balanced the documentary was, though I was troubled by seeing Barcelona and Madrid in the list of cities bombed during the Second World War (who bombed them? When?). I liked their narrative involving Henry Wallace (as a Brit, I was unfamiliar with him) and was intrigued by their assertion that most of the US five star Generals opposed the use of the atom bomb.

Like much of Stone's work it was impressive, but I do wonder how much of it would stand up to serious scrunity. Still, he came across quite well during the Q&A and smiled when he signed my book, so I won't hold it against him.
