Turn off that terrible. terrible wall of music!

For crying out loud, Oliver, what is that? Is there any second without some orchestral or choral piece of music blaring way too loud, adding to the already massive bombardment of visuals and the complex, fact-packed narration?

This is not what music is supposed to provide for a documentary, especially not at that volume level, and for me it was also at least 60% totally inappropriate, like in ep. 1 they (at appr. the 17 minute mark) present Henry Wallace's ideas for a better USA, and we hear Verdi's classic "Va Pensiero" choral piece from Nabucco - WTF? Am I at the opera now? What has Verdi's Hebrew Slaves hymn ("Go, thought, on wings of gold") got to do with Wallace's political ideas? That he would have been the Messiah President? Oh no, come on...!

The overall level of manipulation on Stone's part is really annoying. Why do you have to do that? Shock us with up-to-now unknown facts and connecting points in history, Mr. Stone, not with Verdi, screaming Russian choirs and orchestral gravy.

John Williams showed how it's done in your very own JFK:

If you out there don't know it, listen to "The Conspirators" or even better "The Death of David Ferrie" from JFK and you know what I call good documentary music:
