Kitchen shop owner
What a nasty person! I really thought Louie would have an equally snarky something to say back at her but he didn't. He should've done a five finger discount on the way out.

shareIt's a common theme on the show for a character to first be shown doing something wrong or obnoxious, but then humanizing the character and make the viewer realise that they were judging the person unfairly. Louis likes storylines where he turns out to be the one who's wrong. Normally I really enjoy those twists, but in this case it made me mad that she let her win the argument. She was being a horrible person and shouldn't have come out on top.
shareIt's unlikely that after first being ignored that too may people would continue to shop and actually buy something. No, this situation would never play out like this in real life. And that's fine; a larger point was being made. Great casting on the cashier, though.

Well she said people like Louie are ignored, people who want their ego stroked for buying nice kitchen gear. The actual client base are professional cooks/chefs. Not debating how it would play out in reality, but it makes sense as described

That lady was obnoxious.
shareI actually wasn’t sure what she said at one point. I kept playing it, but couldn’t get it—and I’m a native English speaker who’s good with accents. What an irritating way of speaking.

That woman was wrong in every single possible way she could have been, but it's not like they need to write a comeback, the audience will do that. It's unsatisfying, but maybe that's how they wanted it to be, even if it's not what many would prefer. However if the show had too many moments like that? I wouldn't watch.
shareHaving worked in retail the last 5 years, I am immune to "I'll take my business elsewhere" line that so many baby boomers and older people think is going to make a difference. That being said, owner or not, In that same scenerio, I would have gotten the key and helped the customer. That's a $2000+ sale, and if I can make my miserable day working retail more interesting by doing something cool, like handeling that transsction, I'll do it for my own personal bragging rights. That lady was arrogant
shareAs a Baby Boomer, I can tell you that the "I'll take my business elsewhere" line is the least undignified comeback a person can make to a rude tradesperson or shopkeeper.
My choices for a response to the young woman would have been:
For snark effect,
"Congratulations on being only 24 and owning your own shop in Manhattan. Have you thought about what you are going to do after your sugar daddy stops carrying you?"
To be polite,
"Life is a great circle, child. I was once on the same side of the conversation that you are now. In 20 years, what are you going to say to a 24-year-old who's talking to you the way you are talking to me?"
And for argument's sake,
"When I was young the world was so nasty that rivers caught fire. We boomers cleaned that up. What are you doing besides ripping off hipsters?"
But the thing is, I've had several hours to digest the show. Louie was in the moment and reacting the way anyone would have at encountering such a snotty twit in a place where one would not expect it. That's what's so good about the show.
The thing is, I don't think Louis (the writer) feels the character was a snotty brat. She was an exaggerated representation of Louie's fear of younger generations.
Part of the fear is young people are asshats with no manners, but the other part is this perception of "manners" and "attitude" and etc., Louie's ideas of how to live/interact are antiquated. He isn't right about anything simply because he's old. As he said, his children are already smarter than him. It's tough to deal with being phased out of relevance.
The average person would have left the shopping basket on her counter and walked out instead of paying to eat *beep* and take a psychological beat down. This is not a utility bill he has to pay.
shareThe whole debate was stupid because Louis doesnt have the talent anymore....because....you know why...
There we were, minding our own business, when kids started killing themselves all over my property.
When is the last time you wrote, directed, starred in, and edited your very own hit show on FX?
Never?
Not even while simultaneously raising two daughters AND keeping a stellar stand-up career?
No?
Then you have absolutely NO RIGHT to even utter a judgement on truly talented, unique, brave, and timeless individuals.

Normally i'd just hack her wifi and change her password if she has any or come back later and just torch the place.
shareI would have punched her perfect Asian face and then thrown her merchandise all over the store and said, "Your parents just lost a sale!"

Hated that scene. Louie basically agreeing with her was just ridiculous, because she is wrong. That is fine if Louie feels that way about the youth, but what she added to it and her arrogance, to me , was unnecessary for what Louie was perhaps trying to convey. I feel him expressing this fear could have been shown better.
