Farts are only funny to men

Sure there is a woman or two out there who thinks fart jokes or farts are funny, and I love this show, it's brilliant but farts just aren't funny to me. I was raised by my father and two brothers, they love fart jokes, but they are just a natural, everyday, bodily reaction, like sneezing. Guys, can you explain why they are funny to you?

reply

I'm a man and i hate fart jokes. It's just a normal (but disgusting) bodily function.

I think that many comics use them just to prove they're unconventional, but still i don't get it.

Thanks Expresso, I thought I was going to get hate for this. It's nice to know that all men don't think it's funny, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Louis C.K. broke down and explained perfectly why farts are funny :D

at the same time, queef jokes are only funny to women.

What woman finds queefs funny? You do realize that South Park is written by men right?

reply

I was just kidding.

Although I may not find farts funny, I like being around people who have an easy sense of humor, you guys make the best friends.

Stop being so retentive, farts are hilarious.

They are rectal trumpet fanfares that proclaim that you're alive - but smelly. But the timing and the context has to be on for maximum effect. CK is an absolute master of fart jokes and Come On God is perhaps the best episode, perfect timing. I was laughing hysterically.

Some, like Adam Sandler, go overboard on them and thus lose their moment for awkward laughter. There's only so many burp/farts and chimichanga bombs you can rip before they become stale.

And nothing tops Mel Brooks:

I'm male. Never found fart jokes amusing. Even as a child.

What passes for comedy changes with time.

C K has staked his claim as the everyman, his clueless man child in Louie has struck a chord with audiences. But will he be allowed to evolve. Adam Sandler has lobbed to many chimichanga bombs to make the transition to serious actor - even thought he was very good in Punch Drunk Love. Jim Carrey sealed his fate with the talking butthole routine, he's stuck like Sandler. It could be called the curse of rectal humour.

On the other Steve Carrell, who never dallied in sphincter humour has made the transition to serious acting almost effortlessly. And he could become a Best Actor Oscar winner.

Still one hopes that there are routines that are timeless:

Farts are funny because they make an infinite number of funny noises. They feel incredible and every one of them carries with them a sense of danger in that they may become a dreaded SHART! Farts have the ability to clear a room or their bark can be worse than their bite.

Farts can relieve the tension in an awkward situation. They can be a barometer for relationships between men and women.

And so on, and so on....

Normally I am not into fart jokes or scatalogical humor.

I liked the scene with the fart by Louie's pregnant sister mostly because of the reactions and facial expressions of all the characters.
