have you ever pawned anything??

I've been in a pawn shop once and it was dark and 'seedy'

this show's shop looks very nice---expensive items!

There was a pawn shop in the town I lived in the Midwest. It was nice. Large and clean. Nice stuff.

There's a few here in Downtown Reno, as you can imagine a casino town has lots of pawn shops. They are actually quite nice, but you have to know what price you want to pay. For example, I've seen laptops that weren't such a bargain vs. new, and high-end watches that you really have to know what they are worth. If you know how to dicker and haggle, I guess it's ok, but I don't enjoy that.

Elsewhere, I've seen pawn shops that I can never figure out how they stay in business, the merchandise is all overpriced junk.

We were always broke when I was a kid. My mother would pawn her Sterling Silverware (wedding present) all the time. She would retrieve it, then pawn it again in the next crisis. My oldest sister began working at 14 and saved enough to get it out of hawk for good. It is still in the family.

I attempted to sell a $300 Saxophone to a pawn shop. They offered me $10. I walked. I sold it to a High School student for $135.

I was in one in Rhode Island about twenty years ago. I was about 2 steps short of homelessness, so I brought an electric guitar that I had to a shop to see what I could get. It was a nice guitar, not a Gibson or anything, but in great condition. I think the guy offered me something like $15. I left with my guitar and found out about 5 years later it was worth between $200-250.

Fortunately, I have never been in a position where I had to pawn anything that I own. My fear is that I wouldn't get enough money back in time to pay back the loan. As a result, I would lose my item.

When I went to university, there was a pawn shop that was downtown. I used to go there...perhaps twice a month. I would look to see if they have any "new" CDs (well....new to THEM, anyway).

If I were to go into a pawn shop, it would likely be to buy something. 

I pawned my electric guitar once when I was delayed getting paid. This was while I was in college. That was a looong time ago, though.

I never pawned anything, but I tried to sell something few years ago. Didn't work.

I used to collect diecast cars in 1:18 scale. GMP is a premium manufacturer of those. I had a large collection of Fox Body Mustangs that retail about $200+ since GMP went out of business.
So I took two of them to the pawn store because I wanted to buy a nice present for my girlfriend's birthday. I was asking $120 each, but I was willing to let them go for $100 each, which would give the pawn store a 100% profit.
So the guy who works there asks me why I'm asking "so much" and I explained above to him. He goes to back room for about 10 minutes and comes back and offers me $15 for each. He claimed that they're selling on eBay for "less than $50". I walked out.
When I came home, I checked eBay. Most of them were selling above $200. There was one that was damaged, no box, that had a starting bid of $50 with 7 days left in the auction.
I sold them later on the Craiglist for $180 each. It took me few weeks.
