Vectrex crappy video game system...

I'm sure this must have been a re-run and it was ridiculous.

A guy brought it some crappy "Vectrex" video game system from 1982. They all drool over it saying it was the system that everyone wanted.

Well, that clearly isn't true... it wasn't even a color system.

I really get sick of all of their lies on this show.

From the late 70s and through most of the 80s, the #1 game system was the Atari 2600. It actually had hundreds of games. For a personal computer with video games, the #1 system was the Commodore 64. One guy got a Vectrex for Christmas and it was a total piece of crap. NO ONE wanted that junk.

You have to take into account that there were a lot of attempts to topple the Atari VCS/2600 like the Intellivision and Colecovision. Few did well because of price and so on. The vectrex was meant to be revolutionary as a home system for 3d vector graphics, a big thing at the time.

A more modern comparison would be the Dreamcast, trying to take Sony's crown but a lot of people waited for the PS2, as well as the fact that the Dreamcast was expensive and had a poor launch library. That's the sort of things to consider and there are people who collect old systems.

Also, a lot of people wanted Vectrex because it was considered "portable" with its stowaway controller and built in monitor. Rather than hog up the TV, kids could play games from anywhere in the house without needing to hook it up to a house television. Vectrex was also the very first console to have a game that featured digitized speech and that was big news back in the day.
