well there's a lot of serial killer movies too, that isn't too much different. if you don't have a desire to watch it,then don't...but I think the reason they made a movie of him is because a lot of people found him really captivating. and his story is interesting,I'm not specifically talking about his murders, but his life as a child and being a loan shark, and working for the mob..
In real life he broke his wife's nose, threatened her, told his kids he would kill her if she left him, and lied repeatedly to all of them. Doesn't sound so loving or devoted.
A majority of his kills were mob affiliates. Not exactly innocent. Yes, he did kill a few innocent people (in addition to beating the hell out of his wife every chance he got), but yeah...this movie doesn't even really stick that close to the guy's life.
The movie is alright. Purely middle of the road. Shannon is excellent as always but the film sadly does nothing you haven't seen in a hundred other gangster movies.
Also, the movie really tries to sugarcoat Kuklinski's relationship with his family to make him slightly symapthetic. The movie basically tries to say other than a few angry spell she had when things were tough, Kuklinski was the "perfect husband & father" when in fact he had beaten his wife several times during their marriage - breaking her nose on a few occassions - stabbed her once & had even threatened his kids with murder from time to time. Perfect father material.
in reality his wife told a million stories after his arrest just like he did...wouldn't believe either of them completely...just got through watching that long interview with the real Kuklinski where they show his wife even say that it was the perfect family perfect marriage...and the way he talks I know a good amount of what he says is either complete BS or at least exaggerated quite a bit
but I agree the movie was weak despite Shannon's great performance...they did try to make the character too sympathetic while showing his kills back to back...also a lot of the scenes just didn't have enough backstory or development or simply enough meat to them and came across as just empty gangster dialogue that like what was said has been used a million times before in other similar movies
Oh shut up. There are lots of films out there glorifying serial killers. If it's not your thing, don't watch it. Or go ahead and watch it, then come back and give an opinion about the quality of the film itself.
How bored do you have to be to post something like this?
