What Movie Were You All Watching?

Tried to see this at TIFF last year but couldn't get tickets, finally got to see it now and I'm shocked it only has a 6.9 and there's so much hate on here for it. Seriously, with all the f-n sequels and teen comedies and other crap that's out there these days, when do we ever see 90s style mob/crime movies like this anymore? Great cast, every minor character is well acted and memorable. Hell, after torturing myself to sit through The Hobbit for 3 hours, I couldn't tell you more than 2 characters of Bilbo and his gang of generic dwarves. This movie, even characters in one or two scenes stood out. I'll take films like this over 90% of the crap out there anyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

I agree. It was refreshing to see a good old 90s style mob film in today's stream of movies. The acting was great and Michael Shannon deserves an oscar nomination for his performance.

If you are still conscious, it is because Jack Bauer doesn’t want to carry you.

Its an excellent movie. One of the best mafia movies I've seen. No glitz and glamour. It portrays that world with the darkness and paranoia it really has. Imdb is full of cynical whiners.

i felt the acting and filming was great, i just felt like the over all film wasnt put together good

I couldn't agree more. Let's face it, good movies just aren't appreciated anymore. It's just about to the point where if I hear alot of people like it, that means it's terrible, and vice versa.

Very good film, this is.

I thought it was very good, too. It seems like a lot of the complaints are about it being fictionalized, but I don't know what anyone expected - there's also a documentary, and this isn't it. They should watch that if that's what they want.

The thing that really made it stand out was the performances. Just beautiful work by all the cast, here. Camerawork was also very good, but it was the acting that put this into really memorable territory.

Terrific film. Shannon was excellent and the supp. cast were also very good. Only complaint: too short.
