Anti-collectors message.
"The Man Upstairs" represents the kind of grown ass man who buys toys and leave them in their boxes on a shelf instead of letting kids play with them.

PRetty much the same message as Toy Story 2, in that regard.
I've always been that kind. It confounds me - with LEGO moreso than any other toy - that anyone could do such a thing. I was buying some locally and this person kept trying to talk up the bin as having such and such old sets, complete, instructions, being worth a lot of money, etc.
I looked him in the face and just said "But can I build a scary serpent temple in the desert with them?"
Got the bin for $20 in the end.

Build whatever you want, use your imagination but here is Batman lego, star wars lego, harry potter lego, lord of the rings lego, and so on. lol
Lego was always better when it was just Space, or Castle lego then tied to a particular property, it mean we really could use our imaginations.
