Even bullet proof glass will eventually break if fired upon long enough, if they had fired with 22 caliber ctm bullets a couple of lucky placed shorts might be enough to penetrate... it really depends on the glass and which ammo they are packing.
Anyway, my take is that they gave it a shoot, so to speak. Plus a flat tire was likely also attempted.

Exactly, it's bulletproof glass, not impenetrable glass. Plus, who would do nothing? Even when you know it's futile you at least attempt something.
