Congrats Ryan Reynolds, you've delivered two crap movies in two months..

First 'Green Lantern' and now this. Looks like it's not going to be a good year for him. He needs ro make some really smart choices ,'The Proposal (2009)' was a long, long, long time ago.

reply

Ryan choices are roles he likes to do.

What's to say The Change UP won't be a good box office choice. Zookeeper was hated by critics, yet it somehow managed to turn over a profit.
Question= have you seen this movie, because if you haven't and you know it's a comedy, epic fail man.

reply

I'm not a hater. Just pointing out the fact that Ryan Reynolds' career is taking it in the @$$. He needs to put out more edgy stuff and get out of his comfort zone like he did in 'Buried'. His pretty-boy/goofball shtick is wearing thin. It didn't help that GL tanked so bad.

reply

The Green Lantern flopped more than just because of Reynolds. Cast any other actor and I don't think it would have made much of a difference. It wasn't like Catwomen where it was being advertised as Halle Berry Catwoman. Besides the Change Up also has Jason Bateman.

reply

"...Besides the Change Up also has Jason Bateman. "

WTF does that have to do with anything I've said?? I was talking about how Ryan Reynolds desparately needs an Image-change. What does that have to do with Jason Bateman? (Who's doing quite well, MUCH better than Reynolds. Horrible bosses was a hit.).Reynolds has been playing the SAME character for over many years now and people(and critics) are growing tired of him. He needs to seek out more diverse work and work with interesting directors, nobody else will do that for him. That's what actors do when their careers hit the skids. They find a way to resusicate it.

reply

I'm just saying the Change Up may not flop like some people keep thinking it will. Making Crappy movies (or critical flops) after crappy movies does not matter as long as that actor keeps bringing in money. Look at Adam Sandler for future references.

reply

"Look at Adam Sandler for future references."

Well, he at least TRIED.He made 'punch-drunk love' and more recently 'Funny people'.Both good movies that didn't work financially. Plus, Sandler gets MASSACRED by critics EVERY TIME he makes a dumb sandler-esque comedy. I'm sure it must NOT feel nice to be bashed time and time again, no matter how much money he makes, it must sting a little somewhere deep down.

Look at Ryan Gosling and how his career is shaping up beautifully, he took on edgy, independent roles early on is his career and slowly but surely gathered enough respect from audience, critics and directors so much so that he'll always be able to find quality roles and people will always be willing to work with him. George Clooney must have seen something in him to cast him as the lead in a movie he HIMSELF is directing.

The thing with Reynolds' is that he's been typecast as the 'smirking,cocky,pretty-boy douche with great abs' due to his thankless choices in roles over the years. He can do as many Hugo Boss commercials as he likes and make as much money as he wants to now but he can't play that guy forever. He's 34 already and once he's 40, he'll have problems finding decent work and will be forgotten.

Both Jack Black and him need to take their careers in a different direction lest they shall be obsecure.

Comicman117 needs to realize that Adam Sandler recent films have been rated PG-13 so a wider audience can see his movies no matter how the bad reviews are. The Change-Up however Is a crude rated R film with rotten reviews where teens can't see It without adult supervision.

reply

The rating has nothing to do with how well a film does.

reply

The R rating plays a huge factor for the wider audience and on top of that the bad reviews won't help either. Comicman you're the one coming up with the Adam Sandler film comparisons when his films are rated PG-13 for a wider audience can see whereas The Change-Up Is a crude rated R film with bad reviews. The reason The Hangover 2 done so well was because It is an established franchise where the first film had positive reviews yet part 2 recieved rotton reviews. This film however doesn't have much positive reviews.

reply

In many cases that's true but here we have R rated comedy with terrible reviews and at the same time there are 2 R rated comedies with very good reviews that are still in Top 10. That means less audience for the worst and the last one. Plus, this summer was over saturated with those comedies - Hangover II, Bad Teacher, Bridesmaids, Horrible Bosses, Friends with Benefits and now Change Up. Idk but it doesn't look too good for Ryan and Jason.

You go Glen Coco...

reply

It doesn't help though that's for sure.

reply

Why does it matter if people and critics don't like him? He decides what movies to make and if he likes the script then he should do the movie. Also i enjoyed this movie, okay, it wasn't a 5 star Oscar winning movie, but its a tongue in cheek comedy and should be reviewed as such, if you don't like these types of movies (or Ryan Reynolds) don't watch them. Also Green Lantern wasn't the worst superhero movie ever but i would say RR was not the right choice for the role of Hal Jordan

reply

What if he just chose wonderful roles. Forget edgy.

I mean, okay, maybe edgy, if the rest of the screenplay was really good, I don't know. But edgy isn't the imperative factor here. He needs to do GOOD stuff. Like, a movie that has a traditional or even old-fashioned structure and plot but is really really GOOD is probably the way to go. CHINATOWN and BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID and RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and THE STING and ROCKY and BODY HEAT and UNFORGIVEN and IN THE LINE OF FIRE and TOOTSIE were like that. None of those movies really "reinvented the wheel", as they say. They were just, you know, really really GOOD.

Good is what is indicated here. Nothing more, and nothing less.

reply

Green Lantern is the worst big budget movie that I've seen in years. Just awful.

reply

The OP can also congratulate Olivia Wilde. She beats Reynolds because she delivered two crap movies in TWO WEEKS ----> Cowboys & Aliens and Change up.

reply

Your awful.

reply

His awful what?

Oh, you meant you're awful as in 'you are awful.' I see now.

reply

I see what you did their...

P.S. See what I did there?

"Who do you think you are, Bill Clinton? You're a comptroller!"

reply

I saw what ewe did they're.

The disturbing thing about this BAD movie when you think about it is the fact that the people that wrote it either know human beings like these characters or think human beings like these characters are relatable and interesting. I don’t know what’s worse. I found just about every character to be unrelatable and genuinely unlikable. I hated this movie more than Green Lantern and that says a lot.

reply

No it doesn't.

Opinion. I know people who like him.

That's so true.

reply

Both are still the two worst films of 2011, it's official now that the year is done.

reply

Coming from an unofficial source.

reply

Are the Razzies coming out today too???

reply

Smart choices? You think he's trying to get an Oskar? He was probably just happy he got the roles. If someone is giving you millions to do such an easy job you better take it. People keep forgetting there are too many actors and too few quality movies. Starring in a bad movie is a certainty.

reply

Yes, Green Lantern was that bad.
